So, today we have another post based on some reader questions that were left on a post about some things screwing up your manifesting mojo.
Hi Kelli.
Could you explain the exact process you use when you want to attract something?
You just ask once or think about it once and focus on feeling good by getting on with everyday life and forget about it? You don’t visualize?
Also. Could you explain this?
‘Also, you might want to know that you can not think about what you want ever again besides that first time, and you would still get it. Crazy, but true.’
*Do you have an article on the exact process you use?*
I have problems trying to generate a feeling when visualising and have the attention span of a flea.
Thanks Sunny
As anyone who has been reading my blog knows, I write about LOA a lot, and lots of what awesome reader Sunny wanted to know is most likely peppered throughout various blog posts. I realized her request on an article that would outline what she was asking specifically all in one spot probably didn’t exist so I figured I would write one now!
This post will be particularly helpful for anyone new to working with law of attraction, and even the more seasoned will probably get some new insights and ways of looking at things.
This is especially true if you find yourself a bit stuck or frustrated. No matter how much we know, sometimes going back to basics can really help us refocus and get back on track.
Just one thing I would like to note…she asked for an exact ‘process’ and that is a common question. Our mind wants to know the ‘steps.’
We tend to make manifesting an intellectual exercise, but it is an emotional one. All the techniques and strategies are tools, and don’t have any power in and of themselves. Different ones work for different people.
This work is all about changing our internal world, and the information I have provided below will be really helpful in doing that, especially if you are just starting out.
So, here you go loveys..hope you enjoy
The First Thing You Want to Do is Figure Out What You Want
If you already have a specific manifestation in mind, this part may not really apply to you, but it’s a good read anyway, because whatever it is you want, you want so much more than that.
You want to create an awesome life, not just get this one thing on which you have set your sights.
This suggestion might sound obvious, but many of us really haven’t a freaking clue what we actually want. We sure as hell know what we don’t want, and could rattle off that list of things without a second thought.
We are pretty conditioned to think negatively. We automatically relegate the things we would really want to fantasy, killing the dream before we even give it a chance to see the light of day.
We may have gotten so swept up in a life we didn’t want, we can’t possibly see a way out.
We have so much momentum behind the limiting beliefs and crappy self-image, we have taken these things as fact.
We have no idea how truly powerful we are in shaping our reality.
So yeah, we may not be super clear on what we want.
And we will have a hard time attracting stuff that makes us feel good if we don’t know what that stuff even is.
Now, at this juncture, a couple of things tend to happen.
First, the things you really want may seem like too big a stretch based on your current reality. Essentially, your mind is telling you there is no freaking way it is possible.
You will start moving to ‘how’ this would happen, and you can’t figure it out or you can see like two possibilities—there are infinite by the way.
Or, you may find you really don’t know what you want exactly..you just know what you don’t like in your current reality.
That’s totally cool. Write down a list of stuff that sucks and then think of the opposite thing that doesn’t suck. You don’t have to know exactly what you want.
You are after a feeling…I know, I know, I have never shared that little nugget before (heavy sarcasm alert for anyone who may not be as familiar with my work)
So, in figuring out what you want, don’t just focus on specific things like a nicer house, more money, a husband and what have you.
Think about what sort of feelings you want to feel. Think of some more general intentions.
Bust out a piece of paper and a pen, and write down the things you want. Don’t censor or judge. The first time I did something like this, my life was all sorts of crappy, and nothing in my reality at that time would suggest any of it was possible. Logical thinking is a total buzz kill and has no place in this process!
Now That You Have Figured That Out….
You need to work on building up some positive energy behind your desire. You have to examine the limiting beliefs that will get in the way of manifesting what you want.
They will easily surface when you start thinking about what you want..it is that uncomfortable sensation that doesn’t let us totally feel good about getting this thing or thinking about it. Us LOA folks refer to that ick as ‘resistance.’
Sunny inquired about whether we have to visualize, and if we can just think about what we want once and just let it go.
We don’t have to visualize, but if we are not used to thinking and feeling in the manner that supports getting what we want, if we are not used to thinking about what we want in a positive way, the visualizing is a very helpful tool, and we kinda have to do it.
The visualizing helps us see what blocks we have.
The visualizing lets us get comfortable with thinking about what we want in a positive way. It is a powerful tool for evoking that positive emotion, for allowing us to genuinely feel the feeling.
Visualizing is a great way to play around with your desire, and let you develop a scenario that actually feels good.
Don’t worry about getting super specific. Don’t worry about being ‘realistic.’ It is okay to visualize about something you may never think will happen, but makes you feel good.
For example, you may want to open up a boutique and an image pops in your mind of sexy men walking around, serving champagne and telling the women how great they look in the clothes.
Technically, we can ask for something and never think about it again..we attract based on our vibration, and what we want is smeared all over that baby. The Universe knows.
But, when we are trying to attract things that are really important to us, things that we really want, we are probably going to think about them, and that’s okay.
The key is doing our best to think about them in a positive way. If the resistance pops up, don’t get mad at yourself.
It is good it is coming up, because without that feedback, you wouldn’t know where you stood vibrationally, and getting what you wanted would be a hell of a lot harder.
If you are like Sunny, and have a hard time visualizing because you have a short attention span, there are a couple of things I would say.
First, if you are having trouble concentrating, there is a good chance there are some big blocks around what you want, and thinking about it feels too uncomfortable, so your mind tries to help by making you all distracted.
Second, don’t worry about visualizing for hours a day. Just a few minutes at a time can work wonders. Going more general can also help, rather than trying to put together some super-detailed scenario where you feel like you have to get everything perfect and exactly like you want it, lest the Universe will bring you something different.
How you feel is the most important thing, and you want to work on feeling good, feeling like you would if you already had what you wanted.
And I would like to repeat something I mentioned in yesterday’s post in case anyone reading this didn’t catch it…visualzing, affirmations, and any other technique are just means to an end. You can do them from sun up to sun down, but if there is no shift in your beliefs, or you don’t actually feel better, things can’t change.
You don’t need to be constantly thinking about what you want. Start tuning into your intuition more..it will guide you down the path that will get you where you want to go most quickly.
Follow your feelings. If something feels good, do it. That will generate positive feelings and bring you closer, and then you’ll figure out the next step by following your feelings again.
Go do things that help you create the feelings you want to feel..there are countless ways to accomplish that besides visualizing and other common techniques. It might be a walk in the park, playing with your dog or engaging in a hobby.
Look for the Breadcrumbs….
I read this term once describing the manifestations that start popping up to let you know you are lining up with what you want, and I think it is a perfect way to describe them.
Depending on what you want to manifest, you may not get the full-fledged thing immediately. Often times, there is some work that needs to be done to make us a good match to it energetically.
Certain orchestrations need to be put in place, and the Universe is working behind the scenes to set it all up. Things happen at the perfect time, and that perfect time may not be next week.
You catch my drift.
So, at this point, many people begin to experience what most of us would deem ‘coincidences’ but as we now know from learning about LOA, are anything but.
For example, if you are looking for a new job, you may start encountering more people who have recently found new jobs, and this infuses you with a greater sense of hope that it is possible for you too.
If you want to find a relationship, you may start hearing more stories about people you know meeting their special someone, or you notice more and more relationships comprised of people from all walks of life, shapes, sizes and what have you. This makes you feel more optimistic that love is possible for you too.
Maybe you start meeting more guys that have the qualities you are looking for, and you now have some confirmation they are out there.
Maybe you are hoping to take your dream trip, and you meet someone who just came back from there, or you come across random mentions of this place, when that has never happened before.
Maybe you set intentions to be more successful with your online business, and you start noticing more comments on your blog, or people emailing you telling you how much they love your content.
It is important you see these types of ‘little’ manifestations for what they are. It is easy to dismiss them because what you want hasn’t shown up yet.
But, when these things happen, it shows you are going in the right direction, so don’t crap all over them, celebrate them.
This celebration will get more energy flowing in the right direction, and you’ll start seeing more manifestations that ‘prove’ this shit is real, and the trust builds. Once we really start banking that trust, that is where the magic can really happen.
To Act or Not to Act….
That is the question… and one that always doesn’t have a clear cut answer. This could be a whole post in itself, and I know I have one or two laying around in my LOA archives.
I’ll just touch on some major points here that will give you some clarity.
Technically we don’t have to do much of anything to attract what we want. But, I don’t know if many of us can reach a level where we truly believe that and just let stuff flow to us. The belief that some sort of action is required may stick around, and that’s okay.
We are in physical bodies to do stuff, and we kind of want to take action. The key is the energy behind the actions.
When we take actions to force a manifestation, or because we fear not taking these specific steps will impede our results, we really slow things down big time. When you act from this space, you are not in alignment with what you want.
We may still get results, but they will be hard won, and the journey to our manifestation will not be very fun, which means we probably won’t enjoy the actual manifestation all that much either.
A great example is if you are trying to build a business. If you hunker down and do all this hard work, and manage to squeeze out some results, you will keep believing that is necessary. Even if you are succeeding, and in a line of work you like, you may find yourself not really enjoying it all because it seems so hard to maintain the success.
When we act from a place of inspiration and lightness, we are in the flow. We are feeling good and really in line with what we want. There is a huge amount of leverage behind inspired action, and it allows us to get more while doing a hell of a lot less.
Now, a note here about certain inspired actions—they feel right and good, but there still may be some discomfort because said action may involve you doing something new or stepping outside your comfort zone. That is normal.
You’ll know when that is the case and to proceed anyway.
Sometimes taking action can be an awesome way to get energy flowing towards what we want because taking the action helps create the expectation we will get it.
It may make you feel better to join a dating site, or let friends set you up, if you are looking for a relationship.
It may make you feel better to attend a networking event, or reach out to some contacts, if you are looking for a new job.
It may make you feel better to take a course if you are new to the online business world to build your confidence and expand your knowledge.
If you are currently doing things that are making you feel badly, but you feel you have to do, because you are afraid you won’t get what you want if you don’t, really try to stop.
The key is not to get attached to any one way of manifesting what you want.
If you have been forcing yourself to go to bars every weekend to try and meet someone, and you hate it, stop going.
If you make yourself use a specific tactic to promote your business because everyone told you that is what you are supposed to do, but it feels like a huge drag, stop doing it and focus on the ones that you enjoy.
The act of pulling back from actions that always don’t feel so great, and releasing the need to control everything, is a process.
You will still probably take uninspired action here and there..even those of us who have been at it for awhile are guilty of this from time to time.
As you become more aware of this force, and what is going on in your head, you’ll get better at recognizing the drivers. You’ll get more comfortable with pulling back.
When you are feeling badly, stop doing whatever it is you are doing and go do something else.
Don’t worry, you will take action again, but when you allow yourself to walk away when things feel hard, frustrating or heavy, it will be with a whole different energy more conducive to getting whatever it is you want.
Honor Where You Are Now
One of the most important things you need to know about truly shifting your energy, and getting into a better feeling space genuinely, is the need to honor where you are now.
If you are feeling terrible about a specific situation in your life, or just life in general, it’s okay. You can’t just push it all aside, and try to get all happy and shiny.
It probably won’t happen and then you’ll freak out that you can’t get into the energetic space you need to enter to get what you want.
You’ll suppress a lot of stuff that needs to come to the surface to be released.
Let out your anger. Let yourself cry. Admit to your fears and your limiting beliefs.
Give yourself credit for any shift you are able to make, even if it is just for a few minutes.
You don’t need to get into a space of complete joy and trust to start changing your reality.
You don’t need to get rid of every negative thought you have before the positive thoughts can gain any footing.
Your goal is not to become some perfect spiritual being. You just want to focus on gradually climbing higher and higher up the mountain.
Cut Yourself Some Slack
One of the most important pieces of advice I can offer you has nothing to do with specific manifesting tips or expounding on points about attraction that seem simple but have a lot nuance.
The law of attraction is a simple concept, but because of the years and years spent believing you had no power, crappy beliefs that tell you the things you want aren’t possible, having a very limited and distorted view of yourself, and what have you, you aren’t going to become a master at this overnight.
You’ll get a lot in theory, but when it comes to practice, you’ll probably fumble a bit. Even as you get more advanced and your beliefs shift, new shit will come up that needs to be cleared to let in the bigger and bolder manifestations.
You are never done. And I don’t mean that in the sense you will never be satisfied or there will always be something dragging you down.
It simply means you will always want to create. Not having a god-like consciousness means you may always be grappling with limiting beliefs, but they get easier to clear as you move along the path. The resistance becomes more subtle.
There will be the tendency to beat yourself up for not always being able to be happy, or for slipping back into old thought patterns.
That happens, and it’s okay. When we catch ourselves going off course, we just have to work on getting back on the path that will bring us to where we want to go.
It is kind of like strength training…we learn some new moves and we have to watch that our form is correct so we get optimal results. Sometime we won’t be in proper form.
It may not happen automatically and we have to practice a bit before it comes more natural.
Just be patient and compassionate with yourself. There is a bit of a learning curve, but you don’t need to learn it all before you start seeing all sorts of awesome.
Your Turn…
What did you think of the post? Did anything resonate with you in particular? Any aha moments? What questions do you have about successfully applying the law of attraction? Would you share any insights or add to a point I made here? Looking forward to your comments as always.

Hey Kelli!
Found your blog today through Ryan’s and I’m totally loving it! 🙂
“when you allow yourself to walk away when things feel hard, frustrating or heavy, it will be with a whole different energy more conducive to getting whatever it is you want.”
This sentence really resonated with me. Most of us have been bought up and conditioned to believe that ‘you can’t quit’ – even when ‘the going gets tough’. Although there are some admirable qualities to this statement, for me, I find the negative side of it is really entrenched and has led me into situations which just aren’t right. – Even when I feel like crap and I know something isn’t working for me, I’m often too scared to ‘admit failure’ or be seen to be quitting to let it go and move on to something more in alignment.
I’ll continue to have a read through your awesome archives.
Plus, your location independent lifestyle is SUCH an inspiration to me – I LOVE Bali… hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂

Hi Chelley
THanks so much for stopping by and I am so glad you liked it. I agree with you about those sentiments–there are certainly negative and positive aspects to them. The willingness to keep going after what we want even when things feel rough is a great thing, and something most of us experience. But you’re right, the flip side can cause us a lot of pain and make our results more slow going. A really helpful thing to remember is evaluating what is driving our actions and decisions..if the primary drivers are fear, doubt, trying to manipulate and control, etc…it is a sign to pull back and wait for a more inspired action to rise to the surface..they will always show up when they need to. I hope you enjoy reading the other posts and hope to see more of your comments here at Life Made to Order. I am happy I infused you with a dose of inspiration. If you are inspired to want something in particular, it means you can totally have it, or else it wouldn’t even pop in the mind.
Good post. I personally believe that feeling love and being intuitive, ‘practicalises’ The law of attraction. That is, if you mindfully meditate anyway and you feel love while doing so (sort of like a Heart Chakra meditation) you can simply ask the question and see if you feel love. This will help conserve your energy to do stuff that is more productive in reaching your desires. Hope this helps
Hi Julian
Thanks so much for your comments and that is a great and very helpful insight. It reminds me of a tip someone gave once about asking about an action or thought and seeing if you feel a lightness or heaviness in response. That will indicate if this thing is true, a good idea,etc..for you at this moment. When we get more comfortable with listening to that inner voice, things become so much easier, and like you say, we will conserve our energy better to be put towards the things that will really give us some leverage behind our desires.
Thanks for the post, Kelli. 🙂 It helps to have a “refresher course” and go over the basic points again.
Hi there
So glad you liked it. Even those of us who are farther along the path can benefit from that as it is easy to forget certain things when we are struggling with a particular manifestation or when it is something we want really badly and we have a hard time detaching.
Hey Kelli, I want to start off by saying how blessed and fortunate I feel to have come to know about about your noble blog. I thank you , thank you, thank you for your amazing posts in simple words. Coming to this particular one, out of the many enlightening one…
“If you are feeling terrible about a specific situation in your life, or just life in general, it’s okay. You can’t just push it all aside, and try to get all happy and shiny.
It probably won’t happen and then you’ll freak out that you can’t get into the energetic space you need to enter to get what you want.”
This one resonated with me the most, that is me most of the times unfortunately under the situations I find myself or vibrate most. But thank you for the wonderful post.
Wish you all your wishes come true. Love
Shraddha
Hi Shraddha
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so happy to hear the blog resonated with you, and you find it helpful and easy to understand.
I am sorry to hear you are having some difficulties right now, but if you are reading content like this, there is some good ‘stuff’ in your vibration as well and you are a match for the solutions and inspirations that will help turn things around. You just have to do a bit of clearing. You just have to be patient and kind with yourself while you do this ‘work.’
Please be sure to keep commenting and let me know how things are going.
I’m only starting to live LOA principles regularly here and now, with honoring where I am at to manifest more sweetness, NOW. Awesome stuff and of course, tweeting it.
