Law of Attraction: Moving into Alignment and Staying There (As Much as Can!) Part 1

 

Alignment is a common phrase in law of attraction speak, and it basically means you are an energetic match for whatever it is you want. You feel good about getting what you want—you are relaxed, happy and there is just that certainty it’s coming.

You don’t have a strong sense of ‘need’ around what you want to manifest. You are open to your desire manifesting in different ways, and you are not attached to ‘how’ it has to happen.

In theory, super-easy but in practice, not so much, because our good old friend resistance is still showing up to the party.

Sure, we may have moments here and there where we are feeling good, but we may not be building much momentum, and those moments don’t last very long.

We may have some sort of manifestation that boosts our spirits, but the enthusiasm doesn’t last. One little unwanted thing happening can knock us right back down a few vibrational notches. We are largely still living reactively, letting our mood and belief system be primarily influenced by what is happening around us.

While we don’t have to achieve some perfect state of being to manifest what we want, we do need to be feeling good more than we are feeling badly, we do need to be in alignment more than we are out of it.

Here are just a few ways to get into alignment, build some real momentum behind the thoughts, beliefs and feelings that will get you what you want and weaken the momentum behind the ones that will keep it from you.

What is the ‘Why’ Behind Your ‘What?’

When working consciously with law of attraction, there is a lot of talk about focusing on ‘what’ we want and releasing on the ‘how.’ And what a tall order that can seem like at times, am I right?

Just trusting and releasing sounds awesome, and we so want to do it, but our minds just can’t help but wander down that road.

And that can be a major stumbling block in letting our manifestations in. But, there can be another element messing with us, and that is getting super-attached to the ‘what.’ We have decided we want certain things in our life because they will make us feel good in some way.

Whatever is floating into our minds now is what we have access to at the moment, and is just one representation of the energy we want to bring into our lives.

Without us realizing it, we often make the ‘what’ the ‘how.’ We convince ourselves that this specific thing needs to happen in order for us to get what we want.

Sometimes, what you want right now may be truly the thing you want, but often times, not really. Again, it is just one representation. It is a symbol for something much, much deeper. Whatever you are imaging now is just one fraction of how awesome things can really be.

The more clearly you can identify those deeper reasons, the easier it is to detach yourself from whatever specific desire you have in mind now. The easier it will be to find ways to line up with your end result energetically NOW, regardless of what your current reality looks like.

So, you want to ask yourself why you want the things you want. You’ll probably have to go down a few layers to really get at the core of what you are after. The first few rounds will probably still be very closely linked to the specific manifestation on which you have currently set your sights, and your mind will hang onto the idea that this thing is what you truly, truly want.

For example, you want to get married because you feel ready to have children, or you want more money because you are having trouble meeting your financial responsibilities.

Start with your desire you have in mind right now. Why do you want that? And why do you want that ? And why do you want that thing? Keep going until you can’t go anymore. You’ll know when you have reached the core.

And when doing this, keep things on the positive side as best you can. Don’t focus on what you are not liking in your current reality.

For example, if you have your sights set on more moolah, you might want your opening ‘why’ to be the desire to meet your financial obligations with ease, not ‘stop hating your life because you don’t have money to do what you want and it sucks.’

This ‘why’ goes a bit deeper than just the feelings you are after, it will really help you clarify what you truly, truly want. And with that clarity, whatever it is will flow into your life much more quickly and in so many ways.

You will find it easier to detach from any specific ‘whats’ you have in mind now; you will be more open to the idea of your desire being able to come in a variety of ways, and they will all be awesome. You’ll be less insistent you know ‘best.’

A Mere Willingness to Believe The Universe Has Got This Will Take You Far

If we’re being honest, we don’t fully believe we can have what we want. We have our doubts. There are certain beliefs we just can’t seem to shift. We are attached to certain outcomes, we are insistent that the thing we want is the exact thing we want, and there is no acceptable substitute.

Our vibrations aren’t squeaky clean, far from it. We still rely far too heavy on outside appearances to dictate our emotional state. We can’t let go of the old stories. We will justify feeling badly with all our might, pointing to all the reasons we are entitled to.

We know we aren’t supposed to be doing this, but we just can’t help it sometimes. There is just so much momentum behind the negative beliefs and feelings, we can’t see a way beyond them, no matter how much we may now ‘know’ we don’t have to keep feeling that way, that we can create whatever reality we choose for ourselves.

And this whole mess doesn’t exactly lend itself to being in alignment with what we want.

We know we are preventing it, and we get all mad at ourselves and worry what we want will never come.

We worry we’ll never be able to become a match to what we want.

We worry we’re screwed, and the thought of things staying as they are fills us with a sense of dread.

But, here’s the beauty of the situation…you don’t need to become some master of your emotions and drop every limiting belief you hold to begin letting in more of what you want. We certainly slow things down, that is for damn sure. But it is what it is..we have a lot of shifting to do, and it won’t happen overnight.

But you have no idea what can begin happening when you are just receptive to the concepts(even if you haven’t fully absorbed them and believe them), and for even just a few minutes at a time, enter that space of trust and knowing everything will be okay and you are being loved and supported, knowing amazing shit can happen at any time, knowing things can be better than you imagine right now, even if you have no idea what it looks like.

You just need a mere willingness to believe things can be different.

You just need a mere willingness to believe there are things happening behind the scenes of which you cannot conceive or begin to understand (and you don’t NEED to understand.)

You just need a mere willingness to believe what you want is possible, and it isn’t your job to figure out every component, that you can’t figure it out because there are infinite ways a manifestation can come together.

In those moments, you begin flowing energy towards what you want, even in the presence of all the other shit. Those delicious moments, even if they are short-lived, are freaking powerful, and you are without a doubt making a contribution towards the energy necessary to let in your manifestation.

The faster you can shift the better obviously, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Don’t beat yourself up because you don’t feel 100 percent trusting and happy every waking moment.

There Will Be Conflicting Energies…It’s All Good…Don’t Freak Out

Aligning with what we want is all about developing those warm, fuzzy feelings that make us a match for said want. And as such, we expect to feel better and better as time goes on. Trust builds. We see manifestations that show us we are on the right track and it gives us a nice boost. Beliefs start to shift.

And you certainly will. But, it might not be a smooth transition at all points. Energies that are holding you back have to come to the surface to be released or you won’t know they are there.

You are cleaning energetic house. We may have a tendency to freak out about this because we aren’t expecting it. It doesn’t feel good and we don’t like it.

We are worrying we went terribly wrong somewhere along the way. We may feel like we are regressing ,or that we haven’t made as much progress as we thought, and we start feeling badly.

The unwanted energies can feel super-intense at times and it is uncomfortable to say the least.

It is so important to remember that nothing has gone wrong and it is all just part of the process.

There have been many points where I was in between ‘levels’ and it was a bit sticky to say the least. I would feel awesome and scared as shit simultaneously.

One moment I would be riding high and maybe a few hours later, something would happen that would trigger me big time or my mood would just change for no apparent reason.

I would be feeling really good about certain manifestations and that my energy was shifting and them BAM..the old way of thinking would come along and bitch slap me square in the face.

Some days I would feel really tired and I just wanted to do nothing but sleep, and that is what I did.

Then there were the times I wasn’t feeling much of anything, almost like apathy, but not in a negative sense. This is common when you have shifted a lot of energy and resistance and haven’t exactly moved to a higher vibing space.

You aren’t feeling badly but you might not be feeling much of anything. I once saw this experience referred to as ‘the void,’ and that seems really fitting.

Sometimes you might feel like you are crazy but you’re not. Energy is just shifting and it’s a good thing, even if it doesn’t always feel good in the moment.

Just go with the flow as best you can. Do what you can to feel better, but don’t force yourself to feel better. Let whatever comes up come up. You can handle it or else it wouldn’t be surfacing.

When these energies surface, remember to ask yourself how you can be served by this experience. What is it teaching you? What is it calling your attention to? How will releasing it help you get what you want?

These questions will help you realize how great it is this energy was brought to your attention so you can deal with it. You want to know what is standing in the way of getting the things you want and being your most awesome self, so you can nip it in the bud.

In Closing…

Before we started this work, we probably had this vision of just thinking our happy thoughts and then letting everything we want just fall into our laps. Again, if we didn’t have resistance, this would basically be the drill.

Sometimes it will be that easy, and it’s awesome. You’ll manifest things that you mentioned you wanted in passing and never gave another thought to. You’ll attract awesome stuff you never even thought about or knew you wanted, until you got it.

But, when it comes to things you have a lot of resistance around because your past experiences make you think you can’t have it, or it is something really important to you, and you just can’t relax or detach so easily, there will be a bit of effort in aligning.

The good news is, over time it does get easier, and you’ll be able to move into that space of trusting and allowing more easily. It won’t feel as foreign. Outside appearances will have less of an impact.

Unwanted manifestations won’t freak you out as much, and you’ll be able to mine the wisdom nuggets contained within much more quickly. You’ll be more accepting of their role in the process and how they will ultimately benefit you by bringing your attention to a block or giving you greater clarity about what it is you want.

Aligning with what we want doesn’t always feel so easy and it’s okay. You aren’t defective or some hopeless case. You’re human and you spent a long time believing crappy beliefs that led you to manifest a boatload of crappy experiences; our true nature has been suppressed, and we spent a long time not having any idea what we are capable of creating.

Things can start turning around for us quite quickly, but sometimes it can take a bit to really align with what we want when there is a lot of resistance that needs to be worked through, and you do have to exercise some patience.

Celebrate the manifestations that show your energy is changing, no matter how small. That energy can snowball quite nicely.

Do whatever you can to raise your energy, doesn’t matter what it is. Seriously, it really doesn’t. Give yourself permission to feel good.

  1. Whopper of a post!

    I hear you on the conflicting energies. TOo many cats and kittens take the time to align, and then, when falling out of alignment they freak out. I out align meself quite a bit here and there but am OK at pulling myself back to feeling good, to feeling peachy, pronto. Don’t beat yourself up! Because that beating pushes you more out of alignment.

    I like breaking a bunch, exercising and doing my morning stretching/yoga routine to vibe higher and higher, and as I do, when I hit resistance, I see and feel it as a bump in the road instead of the mountain I made it in the past.

    Is this easy to do, this alignment bit? Not in the beginning. As you noted KC, lots of crappy limiting beliefs to knife through, to make this alignment thing, and feeling good thing, routine, off of the bat. With practice and patience though, I feel my groove and I get aligned more frequently, and more quickly, with each passing day. Until I get really pissed again when the dogs go ape shit, like today.

    Fabulous insight here. You deserve to be world famous. I mean that.

      You are so right about not beating ourselves up when we find ourselves not being fully aligned with ‘all that is’ or whatever you want to call it. I think having things to do that make us feel better is important, whether it is a particular type of exercise, reading a book or whatever. We just have to be able to give ourselves permission to utilize these tools when our mind is telling us we need to sit down and solve the problems now or power through the bad feelings and keep on going.

  2. Wow. I just wish I could wrap this up in a bow and give it away as presents to everyone I know (especially the people who I think really need it!). It is so hard to accept that you don’t have (or need to have) everything figured out before moving in one direction or another. But the idea that all you really need is a willingness to buy-into the possibility … that that’s where it starts. Wow. Makes total sense. Because as long as you resist, you cannot be open to possibility. I am just really letting this sink in. I guess it all begins with, “are you open to this new/uncomfortable/different/whatever idea?” And if you say No, then that’s where it all stops. But if you say “YES” … then you can really start shifting. It reminds me in a way of improvisational theater … there aren’t many rules to it (given its nature), but there is one. No matter what happens, say “yes, and…”. Because if you say “no” then the scene stops. Reality is negated and you don’t have anything to work with. You can’t have two people on stage creating a situation where one person says, “We are in space ” and the other person says, “no, we aren’t. We’re in the forest.” It stops the conversation, it breaks the flow that can take you anywhere. You have to be able to at least say, “Yes, we are in space … Now let’s try to get back down to earth so we may find a forest.” THAT’S when things get interesting, or at least opens the door to possibility. So I guess given all this, my question might be, how can you manifest someone else to be willing? To go there with you? How can you get them to say “yes, and …” to the possibility? If you’re willing? So you can actually go to that interesting place? Understanding, of course, that we can’t really make people do anything… Is it “leading by example?” Is it “don’t expect them to participate and be pleasantly surprised if they do”? Is that still too focused on control/expected outcomes? If you’re just trying to get to the possibility of energy moving in the first place? I think it may mean that we really just have control over ourselves … but if people don’t buy into the possibility, if we can’t get that chance to believe … where does that leave us? To find new meaning? (Besides the “door shut/window opens” philosophy?).

      That willingness is huge and it can really get things moving. In that moment, you begin creating what you want and you just need to work on getting some energy flowing in that direction when you can. That yes can change your life for sure. That theater analogy is awesome…love that!

      As for other people, we can’t make them do anything. Our energy can influence them and if there is a part of them that is receptive to our higher vibration, they can ‘join us’ there, but again, we didn’t make anything happen for them. We can’t create in other people’s realities.

      The more we can release our expectations, the easier this work is by a godzillion! Just do what feels right to you, and you’ll get what you want..it may not look like you think it has to right now, but you’ll line up with whatever it is you truly, truly want. You have to remember that no one can ever keep what you want from you. How other people impact your life is our own manifestation and our energy can always be shifted to get the outcomes we want.

    Wonderful post that can help many people who might have still not gotten it.

    I think that for any beginner with the LOA is understanding that the more they focus on what is, more of what is will keep showing up. Then there’s also the fact that even for those who’ve got that, there still a factor of anxiety that comes in to play, if the what is is a bit scary.

    In my case, I come a long way, things that no one knows, because I’ve keep them from my blog or any social media, but somehow I was able to concentrate more on what I wanted then was was, and now the wild beast in my life is gone and I’m about to embark on about a year of European adventure.

    Even thought some days were very tough, I managed to keep my momentum going, and now I see some wonderful things happening in my life.

    You always give such great advice. This whole process is no easy task but it’s one definitely worth traveling down for the reasons you’ve mentioned here.

    I’ve started to see some shifts myself and I’ve quieted the negative voice that has been with me for years and years. I’m finally acknowledging that they were all lies and I’m working through them. That’s really helping me even feel better than I have been so I can see why some things weren’t showing up when I truly expected them to.

    I think I’m moving more into the space of being energetically matched with what it is that I want and I have to tell you that it’s a great place to be.

You are right…it is totally worth it.When we start to get a better idea of the beliefs and feelings we have been holding, we start to get a better idea of why certain things happened in our lives and that is so empowering. We begin to realize the power of our focus and we know we can start to change things. We start feeling less like a victim of chance and that is life-changing. I have no doubt you are making huge shifts. I can tell by the changes you are making with your business–that willingness to go with your intuition and do what feels good to you.

    I had a cool manifestation on Friday around work. I had had two interviews for temp jobs but the one they offered me just felt bad when I went there. Even though it was good pay and long term, I found myself not wanting to go there so badly. I kept trying to talk myself into it but it was no use. So I said no, and then I didn’t hear back about the other job. This was late on Friday and I was a bit worried about not having work for the next week and turning down that job but I felt it was the right thing. I kept up visualising the kind of job I wanted. At 4:30pm on Friday another agency rang me to offer me work for Monday! It was pretty cool how that happened. I’m interested to see where that leads since it was obviously meant to happen that way.
    I have a question. If your life is up the shit, and you focus on one thing that makes you feel really good ALL THE TIME (and are therefore not thinking about all your other problems) will that help your vibration so that all the other stuff works itself out? Or are you still subconsciously worrying about all the other stuff, or burying your head in the sand?

    1. Hey Bunny
      Congratulations on getting that job and having the courage to say no to something that was not quite what you wanted. That isn’t easy but it shows you that you have some trust banked. And that you got something so quickly after shows you are aligned quite nicely with what you do want, and this experience will help build your confidence moving forward in turning down opportunities that are not in alignment with what you want.

      As for your question, yes, it will certainly help other things work out without specifically focusing on them. As you bank that positive energy by focusing in a way that makes you feel good, that changes your vibration overall, which as you know, is what determines our experience. When we start to see positive manifestations in one area of our life, that makes us believe those same things can happen in all areas, and beliefs can naturally start to shift from that alone without really digging into them too much.

      The only exception would be if perhaps we have massive resistance around one particular area and then we may need to turn our attention there specifically to work through it.

      But, the one thing I will say is that we have to be able to determine when we are simply taking our focus off something so we don’t give it more energy and turn our sights to something that does help us get into a better feeling space and when we are just suppressing things that are really bothering us. Intuitively you’ll know what is happening and what you need to do.

It really is helpful because we can get so caught up in not being able to totally shift our feelings and beliefs and worrying we we won’t be able to manifest the things we want. That alone opens up energy and can start us on the path. That willingness will line us up with all sorts of experiences and information that feeds into this belief system and will assist us in making the shifts. The conflicting energies can be rough, but yeah, remember it is just part of it and it means you are moving forward.

But that’s okay, my fears are connected with why I don’t have my things yet anyway. But the thing you said about exexperiencing both highs and lows at the same time comforted me. It’s okay if you take a break from pursuing certain goals if your mind is not in a good place…you’ll be much more successful by pulling back and tending to that rather than pushing through with a wacky energy. You can make some tweaks and from that better space, you’ll have a clearer idea of what you want to do.I am glad that resonated with you because we can often feel like something is wrong, but all that is happening is the energies that are not compatible with the higher vibration you are aiming for, coming up to be dealt with.   10. What a great article and commentary! I have been manifesting what I joke about for the longest time now. Of course, there is zero resistance and it is a joke, so it is either neutral in feeling or feels good. I wish I can do the same for the slightly bigger stuff, or is that more of a perception? To the universe, it is all the same? It is just our perspective that something is hard/nearly impossible that trips things up.

    What do Abe Hicks mean when they say it is a matter of focus? I find when I don’t focus on worry, fear, difficulty, or the process itself, there is manifestation. When I focus on the problem, I get more of the problem. So, can I think of this as focusing less on what is/not as of yet and more on feeling good and what is coming?

      The process of manifesting works the same for everything, but like you say, we have a perception that other things seem harder. And this is usually because we have a lot of resistance around it, and/or it is something really important to us, so we have a hard time relaxing, detaching and acting from inspiration and we tend to try and control things more or have a lot more fear and doubt.

      You hit the nail on the head there..it is all about where we are putting our attention and what sort of feelings are being invoked by that attention. It can take a bit to train our brains to focus more on what we want rather than what we don’t and it is never-ending process as we will always probably have some resistance that pops up as we continue to create more and more in our lives. But the good news is, we attract based on what is dominant so as long as we are feeling good more than we are feeling badly, we can let in all sorts of awesome stuff.

  11. This article is so on point and very true. I’ve been practicing manifestations for a about a year now and I’ve reached the point of being in a void situation. I too am experiencing moments of feeling really excited about something but then all of a sudden something would happen and would change my entire energy level. I’m experiencing moments where I feel nothing and just basically want to sleep. It’s almost like taking one big step forward and being thrown back a few more which can be depressing but, I’ve learned through this process that it takes a lot to knock me down because at the end of not seeing the results I ask for and affirm I continue to stand firm in my truths so, we learn a lot about ourselves. I’m still having faith that things will eventually manifest and I hope that there are others who seek to remain faithful to their manifestations. Thank you for this article.

Those fluctuations are normal–very few people can remain in a stable, super-high vibration no matter what is happening, even if their ‘stuff’ has yet to arrive. Making peace with that takes us a long way in dealing with it. Just pay attention to when you are having a super-strong reaction–that is a sign to look more deeply at what is being triggered by the reality of your current situation/absence of something specific,etc…

  13. I love the post for it’s straight forward & honest. It takes time for change to take place, even within the human mind. My Psych. Professor once commented up this subject, “it takes two weeks to create a habit. It takes a life time to get rid of the damn thing!”
    I know the frustration when it comes to those pesky, stupid, old beliefs that holds as much value as a canteen full of holes.

  16. First let me say, I love your website. I come here all the time when I need good, solid down to earth advice so thank you for it.

    Here’s my thing though Kelli, I don’t want to have to “feel good” to manifest. I think I should be able to manifest when I feel like I want to punch someone in the throat. Why should I have to “feel good’ in order to get what I want? As I said, I don’t think that should be a requirement. I think a person should be able to get what they want even when they feel like shit.

    So here is my question: We get what we believe, right? So if I believe I can manifest no matter how I feel then shouldn’t I be able to do it? (I mean seriously, the universe can take their kittens and rainbows and shove them up their collective asses.) If *I* create my own reality then I should get the say in when and how I get to manifest. I should be able to get what I want no matter what kind of shit mood I am in.

    I mean, why the fuck not?

      It seems to me that whatever energy is dominant will determine what shows up, and you don’t have to be happy all the time to get what you want. Also, lack of resistance seems to be more important than being super high energy all the time. There are plenty of miserable people who have relationships, money, good jobs and all that other stuff. The ‘feel good’ recommendation stems from the idea that this is what we truly want at the core, and if that energy is dominant then we will manifest things that mirror that energy back to us, we will have to expend less ‘effort’ getting these things through action. If you think you might leaning towards the school of thought where you care more about getting ‘stuff’ than being happy, you can certainly make the shifts to let in some version of your desired manifestations, but be prepared for the real possibility these things won’t make you feel the way your mind probably thinks they will or you might be getting a ‘watered down’ version. Also, if this negative frame of mind is something that is more the ‘norm’ rather than momentary, I would ask why you wouldn’t want to work on feeling better?

  17. I have a need to share my recent experience in which two sentences appeared and followed me through this event and those were “you are always supported” and “God is real”.
    I was chosen to go to one event and represent my ideas. I was happy, but my happiness came from the fact that I’ll be there with a person I had romantic feelings for. In the back of my mind I thought: something will happen between two of us there. I couldn’t wait. As event was approaching things I planned started to complicate, I had a problem with preparing my speach and my companion out of the nowhere fell madly in love with someone else and he announced he will take her with him and that they will use this time to spend some time together and alone ! 🙂 You can imagine my motivation in those moments. Suddenly, I’ll be all alone and stressed. I planned something completely different. I struggled with reality, but at the end decided to stay strong and grounded. I decided that I can do it, I accepted current situation and I put smile on my face, I focused on positive side, meeting new people and presenting my ideas. And then things started to unfold… every step of my way I met someone who made that step much easier, who took my hand and helped me. I wasn’t alone, I had so much fun. My speach went great. Because I dared to step out of my comfort zone. I dared to give a chance to something I didn’t plan. I was curious to see what good will this situation bring. And it brought so much. It brought me realization that If we let God he’ll show us what can happen and that it’s better than we can imagine. And when I just think that I could stay at home crying… 🙂 God is real.

We are always being supported–the trick is it is our ‘responsibility’ to believe this is so in order to tap into that assistance.   18. I have had success and failures with the LOA. When I am unable to manifest something that I really wanted I am overcome with disappointment which is upsetting. I don’t know how to stay positive and feel like what I want is coming and not get disappointed in a big way when it does not happen. How do you handle that?

    1. Hi there
      The first thing I would say that might be very helpful is not to look at it as ‘failing’ and ‘succeeding’ with the LOA–manifesting may be a verb but it isn’t an action. You can’t do it ‘right’ or ‘wrong.’ The LOA isn’t a tool that can be used to influence your reality, it is a Universal law that has always been operating in your life–you have always been creating, you just weren’t doing it consciously. With this knowledge we can be more deliberate in our focus, we can explore our belief system and get a better sense of what is causing our external experience. It sounds like you are trying to manifest very specific things and getting very attached to them happening and when they don’t you feel disappointed. It is important to be open to how what you want manifests. Don’t get too attached to the one person, the one job opportunity,etc… that may be in your orbit now. If you are feeling very strong emotion when these things don’t work out, it is important to examine that because that energy is strong and is what is dominant. How does it feel? What beliefs are being shown as ‘true’ when these things happen? This feedback is showing you where you are vibrating at, and this information will be very useful in making positive shifts.

  19. So I’m struggling with resistance and am feeling depressed and tired, actually I feel moderately depressed. I would like to know how I can figure out what negative beliefs are keeping me from my intentional manifestations?

    1. Hi Ann
      Thanks for your comment. The best thing I can say about figuring out beliefs is thinking about how your life now makes you feel, why you don’t think you have the things you have. For example, someone who grew up in a family without a lot of money may believe it isn’t possible for them to have money either. They may see money as a struggle, something there is ‘never enough’ of,etc… You may believe certain things about yourself that would keep something you want from you…you’re not good enough, you’re not ‘desirable’ enough in some way for someone to want a relationship with you,etc… If you are struggling with feelings of depression, you might find this post helpful: https://www.livelifemadetoorder.com/blog/blog/law-of-attraction-shifting-energy-when-you-have-anxiety-or-depression/.
