Law of Attraction: Shifting Energy When What You Want Seems Light Years Away from Your Current Reality Part 1

You get law of attraction in theory, and believe things can be different. But then your mind is like…um, no. It implores you to take a good hard look at your life now and asks how in the hell can you get from here to where you would actually rather be?

It doesn’t mean to shit all over your dreams, and thinks it is helping protect you from disappointment and the big, black void of the unknown that we have been conditioned to be absolutely terrified of.

But, your mind ,as much good it does in countless ways, can really be the proverbial wet blanket, when it comes to consciously creating your reality.

It won’t just jump on board with this new way of thinking and being; it doesn’t like stuff that is new and uncomfortable, even if this new and uncomfortable stuff will create all sorts of awesomeness.

It has come to various conclusions about how the world works and doesn’t like having them challenged. There is just so much proof these conclusions are true, as witnessed in your own experience, the people close to you and the world at large.

But what has happened up until now has no bearing on what is possible. There is an invisible support system that will help you in countless ways, so long as you allow it to.

You may not transform your whole life overnight, but things can start changing quite quickly. You can start attracting all sorts of things that bolster your trust and faith, which will let in even more stuff, creating a wonderful cycle.

When where you are now seems really far from where you need to be, just voicing your desires and sitting back and waiting for them to come won’t sit well, and you probably can’t get into an energetic space where events will unfold this easily.

You have to do a bit of ‘work’ to start genuinely feeling better and bring your mind on board with this whole attraction thing.

I know it can seem like a tall order, but it’s totally possible…and on that note, a few wisdom nuggets to assist you in doing so:

Just Focus on the Next Step…That’s All We Can Ever Really See Anyway

One thing that can easily stop us in our tracks is thinking of all that would need to happen to get where we want to go. All the things we need to figure out. All the elements that must come together for us to get what we want.

And as such, any enthusiasm we may have mustered up thinking about this thing we want to attract quickly gets extinguished.

This line of thinking can be particularly disheartening when your mind is having a really hard time seeing how anything you want is even remotely possible given the current circumstances of your life.

But here’s the thing. You have no idea the million different ways what you want can unfold.

You have no idea if what you want right now will be the same exact thing you want a year from now, or even a month from now.

You have no idea what inspirations, ideas, opportunities and people will present themselves to you that shape your path.

You have no idea how awesome things can get once you start consciously working with your energy…you can have so much more than whatever you have in mind now.

If you got a glimpse of all the awesomeness you can create, it would probably freak you the f$ck out to be completely honest.

Do your best to just focus on right now, and what you are feeling pulled to do right now. I say do your best because you are not going to succeed with this all the time…we are so ingrained to try and figure everything out right now.

The fears and doubts are strong. It will be challenging to ignore your current reality as irrelevant.

Make peace with that and don’t beat yourself up too much. I say too much, because let’s face it, you are probably going to do that too. It’s all part of the lovely process of conscious creation…all sorts of fun crap we have to face and clear out.

So, what is your next step? And in figuring this out, things will work out much better if you take it based on your intuition and what feels good, not what you think you ‘should’ do. Because like I always like to remind you lovely people…you are always after a feeling no matter what.

Do what you can to feel those feelings now and you’ll attract a bunch of other stuff that feels just like that. No matter what unfolds, it will be all good because it’s all going to feel awesome, and again…that is all you really want at the end of the day.

Focusing Positively Isn’t Just Going to Happen…You’ll Have to Work at It

We are not very accustomed to thinking about what we want in a positive way. You probably have attracted all sorts of good things in your life before you became aware of law of attraction, and you most certainly already have some beliefs that have been serving you well, so you’re probably not starting from scratch completely.

But, if you are really feeling dissatisfied with your life, and you feel like there is a lot of stuff you want that you don’t have, a good chunk of your focus has probably been on what you don’t want. You have a number of beliefs that aren’t serving you, and that have led you to attract whatever is unwanted in your current experience.

There is a lot of momentum behind these negative beliefs. You have attracted lots of experiences that validate them, and your mind is not just going to let them go. Most of us weren’t raised in an environment where we were taught to truly shoot for the stars and that helped us strengthen that innate power we have to create our reality.

For the most part, that power has been squashed and we have been taught that we don’t have that much power at all really. Moving from this space to that happy shiny one where we get to have all we want by simply believing we can, and controlling our focus, is not going to be a smooth, effortless transition.

In theory, we can totally do that, but all that resistance stands in the way. And if the life you want, and the life you have now seem to be on completely opposite ends of the spectrum, you are most certainly not going to just be able to step into this new reality fully, because you are going to have a really hard time believing you can, and that’s normal.

The old programming is very strong, and you will easily default to it, if you don’t make an effort to build that positive momentum.

So, even though tools like visualizing are simply a means to an end, and you don’t need to use them, they are going to be necessary at this point. You are going to need to do something to shift your focus and help you cultivate that more positive energy.

While getting clear on what you want and setting an intention to get it, is very powerful as it begins to create the energy of what you want, it needs to be nurtured. The energy that contradicts it needs to be cleared out.

This doesn’t mean you have to think about what you want every second, or devote hours a day to various tools. But, if when you think about what you want, you feel all sorts of badly, and you are having a hard time generating any positive emotion around it, you need to work on that.

If you find yourself automatically defaulting to the old ways of thinking and feeling, you have to work on that.

This isn’t about totally clearing everything out immediately. You’ll have moments when you feel fear, doubt or whatever. That’s to be expected. You just want to work on feeling good about getting what you want more than you are feeling badly and that you don’t think you can have it.

It might take a bit to tilt the balance, and that’s okay. The good news is, as you begin to bank that positive momentum, thinking and feeling better becomes easier. As your vibration raises, you become a better match for all that positivity and it floats into your experience more naturally.

You don’t have to work as consciously to get there. When you revert back to the old ways, this ‘new way’ is not as far away and you can get back to that space more easily.

Now that you have a better understanding of how your reality is created, you must be willing to make the shifts. You can’t just blame your mind anymore, and keep stuck in the same patterns and behaviors.

Don’t Worry about Action Right Now

For the most part, we tend to place a heavy emphasis on taking action when it comes to making changes in our life, and clearly, there will be actions that we will take to create our more desired reality. But what is happening in our inner world is the core determinant of our experience. Our actions are manifestations of our energy actually.

And because of this heavy emphasis on action, you may feel really badly about your current lot in life and getting what you want because it doesn’t seem like there is much you can really do right now.

Quitting your job may not seem feasible. You don’t have the money to move out of your parent’s house. You can’t just pick up and move to somewhere you would rather live. And so on and so forth.

But, you don’t really have to worry about doing much of anything at this stage. The beauty of creating our reality by shoring up the warm, fuzzy energy that will allow us to receive the things we want is that we can accomplish that without taking any sort of action.

Our reality is just a mirror of our predominant thoughts, beliefs and feelings and once we start shifting all of that, our outside experience will shift right along with it…it has to. It’s like if I’m driving a car…if I turn the wheel left, the car has to go left, it can’t go right.

Things can start changing as soon as your focus starts changing.

Things can start changing as you express a willingness to believe things can get better even if you don’t know how it will happen or what ‘better’ looks like.

Things can start changing as soon as you begin flowing some energy towards what you want by visualizing or using other tools that make you feel good, or by just allowing yourself to do things that make you feel better, regardless of whether it has any relation to what you want to manifest.

In Closing

You don’t fully believe what you want is possible, and it’s cool. Given what you have been conditioned to believe your whole life, that is totally understandable. Make peace with the fact you can’t just go all in with this whole LOA thing…the less you resist your resistance, the easier it will be.

Be willing to start feeling better before you are given a reason to. Feed your mind the information that will help you revamp your thought patterns and programming. Be more cognizant of what makes you feel badly, and adjust accordingly. Stay in the moment as best you can, and try not to think ahead to six months, a year or two years.

Focus on things in your life now that are good and develop a true appreciation for them…that will open you up to receiving more things to appreciate. Your mind will fight you on focusing positively when there are things in your experience you don’t like…it believes that is where our attention should be until it gets ‘fixed.’ But, you get to choose.

Do shit that makes you feel better. That is probably the best thing you can do right now…seriously.

Your Turn…

  1. Great post. Fortunately I’m in a happy high-vibing mode more and more these days, so I’m getting what I want…but it always helps to be reminded that all of this, our reality, our state of mind, what we attract is a CHOICE. Holding myself accountable for my reality helped me drop some pretty damanging habits. Even when things don’t work out the way I want them to I think “Hmm, what can I learn from this? How did I attract this and how can I turn it around next time?” instead of giving up and feeling like a victim.

    1. Hey Melanie
Thanks so much. So glad you liked it and that you got some helpful reminders out of it. We can always use them from time to time no matter how much we advance since our brain may still have not gotten the memo fully! I like your suggestion about asking what we can learn? When we remember to ask that question we can truly see how everything ultimately serves our journey and brings us closer to what we want.

  2. I like all your posts. Yesterday I decided of all the LOA stuff on the internet, I like your site the best. You say things simply and you break things into small paragraphs that are easy to digest. And you keep it real. I like the fact that you tend to focus on getting people to just take baby steps, to put one foot in front of the other, to just keep moving forward, and that everything doesn’t have to happen NOW, and I especially like that you make it feel okay if we can’t get to that good-feeling place all the time. I need to be given permission to slip up once in a while, I *need* for someone to tell me that is okay. I need to hear that message so thatt I stop feeling guilty about it and stop beating myself up over it.

My biggest struggle in feeling better right now is worrying about the bills getting paid. I’ve started to realize I worry about this all the time. I’ve also started to realize the ridiculousness of it. As soon as I manage to get one months bills paid I immediately start worrying about the next months bills. I mean, like today, here it is the 20th of the month, there are still 11 more days until the end of the month, 11 days, and I’m worried about paying rent, utilities, phone and cable, and where the money for the doctors appointment is going to come from. TOMORROW ISN’T HERE YET! I’m worrying about things that are still days away from happening. I’m learning to redirect my focus more on the feeling that all these things are taken care of, they’re done, the bills are paid, and hey, maybe the doctor *won’t” make me come in and see her to renew my meds, that day isn’t here yet. I get now how important it is to act as if what we want has already happened, not to give any energy to what appears to be “reality”, because it isn’t. But this worrying about the bills every month continues to be the thorn in my psyche I keep working to overcome.

I have finally gotten it to really, truly sink in that so much of getting what I want, getting to a better place, is about feeling good. The other thing that has finally sunk in is that one of the best things that I can do to turn things around if I’m just not feeling like things are going great is to just ask myself, “what would make you feel happy right now?”, and whatever that thing is, I go do it, because I finally get that there is absolutely nothing more important than feeling happy. Allowing can’t happen if we’re not in a happy space. I’m working on feeling closer to what I want everything single day. I am still struggling with the idea that in order for this to happen I have to work really hard. That’s old programming I’m still trying to unlearn. I understand now that most of creating what we want is all about focusing on what makes us feel good and doing that, not working ourselves to death all the time.

    1. Hey Debbie
Thanks so much for your comment and sharing your experience. That means so much to me that you find my blog such a great resource for studying law of attraction. I always do like to give those reminders because we can be really hard on ourselves trying to change our belief system and feelings, which just makes the process more difficult. Creating a great life luckily doesn’t require perfection.

It seems that you are getting a greater awareness about your thoughts and feelings and that is half the battle right there as it puts on the path to making the shifts we need to make to get where we want to be. You are so right that your current experience is not the true ‘reality’ Sure, we may want things to be different than they are now, but we realize we can begin focusing on that more desired reality no matter what is happening. That is a great question to ask yourself. Questions are extremely powerful for shifting our energy and focus because they can help pull us out of counterproductive states and lines of thinking that are easy to get sucked into.

You seem to have a good understanding of how to change your reality and you are giving yourself permission to change the patterns which is awesome!

  3. Thanks Kelli, a really good reminder to stay in the NOW. It’s so hard to not think about HOW things are going to happen or WHEN they are going to happen etc etc. It’s kind of like meditating, trying not to let your mind wander too far away, when you should appreciate the things in your present.
As for me I am vibing quite high lately. I have had two temp jobs and my bosses LOVE me and have given my agent really good feedback. I also get along really well with a lot of the people where I go. I like to think they are getting a hit of my good energy! Things are moving REALLY slowly though. Lots of little things are going great and I appreciate that and write them down, but the BIG things that I really want don’t seem to be happening. And tonight, being Friday night, I am a bit tired and I get a bit discouraged, my mind starts saying ‘you’re never gonna get that, just give up already’. I know it’s because I’m tired and I’ll be back to feeling good after a good night’s sleep but this shifting energy takes it out of you. It it good to give LOA a bit of a rest sometimes and just not think about anything?

    1. Hey Bunny
You are right…it can be challenging since that is what our brains are accustomed to doing…they find it hard to just sit back and trust. The good news is that over time, this questioning can become more subtle and it doesn’t pull us out of the space of trust and allowing as quickly and dramatically as it may have in the beginning. That is great things are going so well with your work…I am excited to see how things keep unfolding for you.

You are right that those internal shifts can affect us physically and it is good to honor that process and take it easy.

It is certainly good to take a break from all the ‘tools’ and what have you sometimes if you are not feeling it or it starts to feel forced. The tools are great for helping us focus our attention and cultivating a better energy and line of thinking, but they are not something we ‘have’ to do. Because our minds are so involved, we tend to make manifesting an intellectual thing, and we are always wanting to know what we have to ‘do’ to make things happen when it is really about feeling. Just do whatever makes you feel better.

  4. Hi Kelli,

I can totally relate to this post because when what I want seems so far away it’s usually when my desire for instant gratification is the strongest. I’m recoving from…”I want what I want, when I want it.”

During times like these it’s good to believe that there is an invisible support system that is wating to help and care for us if we are willing to allow it/Him to help.

You are right when you emphasize we are always chasing a feeling.

And we can become addicted to that chase. We can confuse intensity with intimacy if we’re not careful and always be searching for anything that gives the illusion of filling the void inside us.

That why we must learn to live in the now because the now is reality. And like you said, we have been conditioned to live in the past or fear the future because of our beliefs.

We must stop resisting the gray areas of our lives.

God bless and keep up the good work.

    1. Hey Vernon
That instant gratification can be a really strong pull…like you said, you want what you want and you want it now. There certainly is that system there helping us out in all sorts of ways…we just have to really let it help us! I agree we can become addicted to trying to cultivate certain feelings, and we have to really let the truth sink in that nothing outside of us can truly make us happy. That is why there is that emphasis on trying to feel better now regardless of your outside reality and not until what you want comes, because it just really doesn’t work like that. I am so glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for sharing your insights.

  5. Thanks for the post Kelli, I really needed it right now. I’ve been up and down lately and I do have so many fears and doubts sometimes.

What you mentioned here is one of the things that I find hard:
“One thing that can easily stop us in our tracks is thinking of all that would need to happen to get where we want to go. All the things we need to figure out. All the elements that must come together for us to get what we want. ”

So it’s a good reminder to focus on one step at a time.

    1. Hi
I am glad you found it helpful and it spoke to a current struggle you are having. That can be really hard because our brains are designed to try and plan and figure things out, and just trusting things will come together is something we all struggle with to various degrees, especially when it comes to things that we really want and are really important to us. Thinking back to past manifestations always helps me with that because it reinforces my trust and the truth that I have no freaking idea the variety of ways something can come together.

      1. Hi Kelli, that’s a good suggestion. I will think back to past manifest ions, that has helped me in the past. Thank you. 🙂 And you’re right, we really don’t know all the ways that something can come together!

        1. Hi
It really is a good idea because that helps appease our minds…anytime we can provide that proof will help tons.
