To get the most out of this whole law of attraction business, we do have to get more comfortable feeling our way through life rather than always relying on rational logical thought—not knocking the latter. It serves a very important purpose in various instances, but can be a real buzzkill when it comes to making a better life for ourselves
But anyway, getting a bit off topic here, as I am wont to do often. When diving into such a concept, you start hearing a lot about following your intuition and taking inspired action. These are two very important ingredients in the manifesting process, and the more we do these two things, the more easily all manner of awesomeness will come together for us.
But, there can be some confusion regarding them; expectations usually come into play big-time about what we think will result from acting from inspiration or intuition. We face a variety of obstacles that make it hard for us to integrate them into our lives more consistently, and act from this sort of space.
This post is just some thoughts that I wanted to share that I think will be helpful for people regarding following intuitive nudges and acting from inspiration—while they are two different things, in many ways, there is a lot of overlap in terms of the questions they inspire and how they challenge us.
The ‘Results’ We Get May Not Always Be ‘Good’
This is a really important point because it is easy to get the impression that following an intuitive nudge or taking action from a space of inspiration means we are going to manifest something we want, that something ‘good’ will happen, the quotation marks indicating something our mind would deem good, something we want to happen or resulting in a particular manifestation coming into fruition.
And many times, this is true, but things don’t always follow such a simple path, but this doesn’t mean anything has gone wrong. There have been many times in my life where an intuitive nudge or an inspired action led to something I didn’t like very much, and like anybody else, my initial reaction was one of not loving it.
And this reaction clearly indicated I had an expectation at play—I took a certain action, made a certain decision and in doing so, it would bring about something I wanted to happen.
But upon examining the manifestation, it became very clear to me why I manifested such a thing; the intuitive nudge or the inspired action led me to an experience that was perfect to mirror something back to me that I needed to see, that would help me move closer to what I wanted and embodying the ‘proper’ energy.
Often times, it would lead to me having a helpful insight or deepening my understanding of something that would behoove me to understand.
So, even though these things didn’t lead to something my mind would deem ‘good’, these manifestations were still good…anything that helps us in our path to becoming who we really are and removing energies that essentially put up a ‘Do Not Enter’ sign to all the awesome stuff that is just waiting for us to be in a place to receive it, can’t really be viewed as a bad thing.
I know our mind gets all pissed about such outlooks…that typical personal development ‘drivel’ about things happening for us and not to us, and similar sentiments.
We want our stuff, we want it now, we don’t want to go through any crap, we want everything to be easy and painless all the time, etc…and it doesn’t want to hear this bullshit.
But the more we resist this idea, the harder it will be to truly shift our energy; because instead of looking for the wisdom nugget just waiting to be extracted from these ‘unwanted’ manifestations, we just get all bent out of shape, or start feeling sorry for ourselves, and miss out on these prime opportunities to change our point of attraction in a meaningful way.
Let yourself have your reaction, but then be willing to see these manifestations for what they are, and what they are showing you. This ‘work’ really requires us to actively choose how we feel and the perspectives we adopt a good deal of the time…a huge pain in the ass, I know.
So the next time your intuition or inspired action leads to something you don’t like, suggests you actually can’t have what you want, etc…realize that absolutely nothing went wrong. Whatever is happening is exactly what was supposed to happen, and the nudge to do whatever it was you felt compelled to do, was to make sure you didn’t miss out.
Releasing Expectations
This is kind of related to what I was just talking about in that you want to just ‘let the chips fall where they may’ in terms of what transpires—or doesn’t—after heeding intuition or taking an inspired action.
It can be really challenging to release expectations fully, and you may not always be so ‘pure.’ That’s all good…we’re human and we just have to deal with that.
But the more we remember this, the more it can get ingrained in that good old brain of ours, and the more we can truly be in an energy of receiving.
The more we remember that we have basically zero ability to map out how what we want will come about, and that we can’t even come close to figuring out the infinite combinations of circumstances that somehow get us where we want to be, the easier it will be to just go about our lives, not obsessing and stressing over our desired manifestations, and the variety of things we manifest in our life, that have the tendency to put us in a total emotional tailspin.
When we take inspired action, we can just enjoy the moment and the action we are taking that feels right without the ‘ulterior motive’ of trying to make something manifest for us.
We can truly be in the moment—being totally in the ‘now’ is the most powerful way to align ourselves with the good stuff. We aren’t acting now with our eye on some result in the future we hope will come as a result of our present ‘effort.’
This means enjoying the date you are on, not worrying about whether this person is ‘the one’, if you will go out again or what he is thinking about you.
This means creating products for your business from a space of fun and just enjoying the creative process, not worrying about how much money you think you’ll make from it once it goes ‘live.’
This means truly enjoying the ‘do nothing’ day you felt inspired to take, without the expectation that at the end of the day, something specific should manifest for you as a ‘reward’ for your detachment.
Whatever actions you take, decisions you make, be open to what will manifest as a result. Don’t decide that certain things must happen or rely on your mind’s very limited capacity to calculate possibility and how things can manifest.
The Energy Comes First, Then the Manifestations, So You Have to Make a Move
It isn’t easy acting in new ways; our mind doesn’t like change. Operating from a manifesting-friendly space requires us to do things very, very differently than we have been doing them all our lives.
Most of us don’t have a lot of ‘evidence’ this way of operating is legit, and therefore, it feels really uncomfortable to move away from always working through things logically or trying to get results through taking lots of action, no matter how crappy it feels.
But, since it is our energy that is determining what is showing up for us, cultivating that energy is the first step in creating a different reality for ourselves. This means we have to start acting in a certain way before we have ‘proof’ it is valid. We have to be willing to do things differently, and see what happens.
We can’t insist on holding onto our old way of thinking, being and doing, and only being willing to change when the Universe delivers us something to justify it. But that can’t happen because we’re not a match to things coming together in that fashion.
This means that if you want to benefit from the leverage of inspired action, you have to be willing to stop taking actions that don’t feel inspired. You have to be willing to sit with the discomfort, and your mind’s urgings for you to do something, and its accusations of being lazy or ‘unrealistic,” because these things will come as surely as the sun rises every morning.
What tends to happen is we have that willingness to give it a try, but then when what we want doesn’t manifest as quickly as we want it, we go right back to trying to control things, and we do a bunch of stuff that probably gets us some lackluster results at best. We knock ourselves right out of alignment, and fall right back into doing things the hard way.
That inspired action stuff is bullshit, and results can only come with lots of toil. It is the hard work that actually makes us deserving. It really can’t be that easy.
Will you master this way of operating immediately? No, no you won’t. This is a process. There will be times you will fall victim to the ‘old ways.’ Happens to the best of us so don’t beat yourself up. But again, there has to be that willingness to do things differently.
The same thing goes with intuition. You can’t benefit from following your inner guidance if you are never willing to follow it. Either you follow your intuition or you don’t—it can’t do anything on your behalf without your active participation. It can only send its messages, and the ball is in your court from there.
Like acting from inspiration, this can be really uncomfortable. We haven’t really been taught to value this inner guidance—many still see it as some sort of ‘metaphysical’ thing when it is actually not very mysterious and esoteric at all…it is actually a normal part of our nature as well as other species.
Which is a view held by many in the scientific community. One who comes to mind in particular is Rupert Sheldrake, who has written some very interesting books on the subject.
The previous points I mentioned about expectations and things we don’t like happening is particularly important to remember when it comes to acting from intuitive nudges because the second something ‘bad’ happens, we tend to question said nudges and wonder if we misread them.
The only thing that went ‘wrong’ was that we had an expectation that something very specific would happen. Sometimes we might discover that perhaps it wasn’t a real nudge but that we were leaning in a specific direction because of some sort of emotional attachment, etc…but even then, whatever happens is all good because it will serve us somehow.
As you get more comfortable with heeding your inner guidance, and you get to know yourself better, you’ll be able to get a better idea of what is truly an intuitive nudge and your mind wanting you to do something that it believes will lead to something that will make it happy or get some specific result.
There will certainly be some trial and error here but it’s okay and to be expected considering that it has largely been suppressed this whole time.
The bottom line is that our path is always unfolding, that everything that is happening is leading us further down it—if we choose to believe that—and no matter what we do, we’re always going to manifest something that is helpful.
So this means that even if we aren’t always perfect when it comes to our actions and tuning into our inner guidance, we can still get to where we want to be. We may get there a bit more slowly, but if we can learn to enjoy the journey, that won’t matter as much. The key though is building some trust in the process and giving it a real try.
Your Turn…
What did you think? Anything resonate with you in particular? Looking forward to your comments as always.

“The results we get may not always be good.” Wow, that’s both a true and depressing thought, yet it’s one that must be stated way more often than it is. Even the best made plans and those things with the largest dollars thrown at it don’t always go right. It’s in those times of anarchy when we have to examine what else might be going on in our lives that we’re attracting and find a way to alter some of it. At least I believe that when things go wrong they won’t stay wrong; thank goodness. 🙂
Hey Mitch
Thanks for your comment. It can be tough when things don’t turn our like our mind wants them to but as we get better at ceding that control and just focusing on the energy of what we want, more things we ‘like’ will certainly show themselves, things that are likely even better than what we have set our sights on. You are right…nothing ever has to stay ‘wrong’
The meaning we assign to any situation will result in what we extract from that situation.
If we assign a positive meaning to a seemingly negative situation we will extract positive meaning from that situation, no matter what anyone else’s intention involved in that situation – “Bashar”
Like your post Kelli.!!
Nice explanation.
Each and every situation be it negative or positive is leading us perfectly to what we want in life.
Hi Aniket
Thanks so much for your comment and that is a great quote by a very wise being…I agree that there is always something to learn that will assist us in becoming more of who we really are and getting into alignment.
This was very enlightening. I have decided to wait on inspired action before doing most things and it still feels funny. I am so accustomed to “making things happen” that “allowing” them too happen, takes a major shift in my mind and body. It gives me more time to practice gratitude and meditate.
Hi Jameelah
Thanks for your comment and I am glad you enjoyed the post. It does feel funny–we are very used to being motivated by pressure of some kind, and more ‘negative’ motivators. If you don’t feel anything coming yet, don’t stress. Using that time as you have stated is the best thing you can do.
