So, another LOA post was flowing through my veins, and I thought it would be a good idea to cover some aspects that can really muck things up, and slow the flow of awesomeness into our lives. These issues tripped me up personally, and caused me quite a bit of distress.
But,once I gained a better understanding, I experienced some major shifts in the feelings department. And as we all know, feeling good is the name of the LOA game.
So, for all you law of attraction enthusiasts, I hope what I have written here will aid you in strengthening your manifesting mojo, and help you feel all warm and fuzzy about getting what you want.
And, because I want to aid you in creating nice feelings, I have thrown in some pretty pictures of sunsets and sunrises I have seen throughout my travels, even though that has nothing to do with what I’m writing 🙂
Onto the post….
What Does it Mean to Be Detached?
A lot of people mistakenly believe the meaning of detachment is to stop wanting what you want to actually get it. This can upset that brain of ours—we want what we want so badly, and if we stop thinking about it, and feeling like we want it, doesn’t that mean we won’t get it?
You have a lot of emotion behind that desire, and to just let it all go seems kind of hard. And, your inability to let it go causes you all sorts of distress, you panic you won’t get what you want and so begins the downward spiral into despair.
Well, the good news is, detachment is not about making yourself feel like you actually don’t want what you want. It is about not feeling like you must get what you want to be happy, and not being able to feel happy until you get it. You can’t have a feeling of need around your desire.
When you think about what you want, you have that feeling that it is already done, what you want is on its way, and will show up in your reality in the best way the Universe can orchestrate. Just like you place an order on Amazon and have the expectation it will be delivered, you place an order with the Universe with that same expectation.
The only reason the latter appears harder is because we have a lot of old programming and screwy beliefs we have to work through to really feel this truth on the deepest levels, and act in ways that will most effectively aid our manifestation.
Being detached is not trying to figure out how; it is about realizing that your mind is limited and cannot possibly figure out all the ways your desire can move into your actual experience—that mind of ours can be quite the arrogant bastard. It tries to tell you that if it cannot conceive of a possibility, it must not exist.
Being detached means you are not trying to control, and manipulate, situations to get your desired outcome.
If I Start Feeling Happy Now, Won’t That Keep My Life the Same as It Is Now? I REALLY Don’t Want That!
This is another concern that creeps up courtesy of our lovely minds, and all the worry that surrounds whether we will actually get what we want. LOA is all about how we feel, and our experiences are always a reflection of how we are feeling in that moment. That means in order to get what we want, we have to feel whatever feelings we think this desire would produce for us, right now.
Got it–makes sense. But, then a particular worry begins to creep in. You are concerned if you start feeling happy now, in spite of any ‘bad’ stuff in your experience, or you take a more positive perspective on things you don’t like right now, like your job or being single, that your reality will stay the same, and the Universe will stop all its machinations that were activated the moment you decided you wanted whatever it is you want. You think it will check in on you, and be like…eh, she seems pretty happy now, I guess she doesn’t need that better job, more money or the new boyfriend.
But, this is not going to happen my dear. That is not the way it works. When you are radiating high-vibing feelings, you will keep attracting things that match these same feelings. The better you feel, the more awesome stuff you will bring into your life.
I’ve Been Focusing on Good Stuff and Taking Inspired Action—Why Are ‘Bad’ Things Still Happening?
So, you’ve been doing your focusing; you are feeling good. You even have taken some inspired action. But, ‘bad’ things are still happening. What’s up with that? First off, it is important you know everything that happens is always moving you towards your ‘stuff’. Anything ‘bad’ that is popping up in your experience is to show you where you are still harboring limiting beliefs surrounding your desire.
So, instead of feeling shitty, know that the Universe is simply lending you a hand to help you get what you want more quickly. When ‘bad’ things happen, it is important you tune into how these situations are making you feel. By pinpointing the feelings, you can get some great insight into the limiting beliefs you hold around whatever it is you want.
For example, you may find that things are always going great for awhile, and then something happens to totally derail you—it may not even be something big, but a smaller thing that just kills your mood.
You ask yourself how this makes you feel. The answer you get is that things can’t be good for too long without something ‘bad’ happening to balance it out. Then, thinking back, you realize, you feel pretty strongly about this belief. Now you have identified it. What can you do to shift this belief? What perspective can you adopt that is an improvement upon this?
Try not to get too discouraged when you hit these little bumps—they are all part of the process, and ultimately are good because they help you clean up your vibe, and expedite the delivery of the goods.
When Should I Act and When Should I Do Nothing?
This is one of the toughest aspects of LOA, primarily because there is a lot of misunderstanding around it. We are told we don’t need to do anything but feel good, and what we want will come to us. This is true, but there is a bit more to it.
If you were able to drop every limiting belief you held, yeah, you could probably do absolutely nothing, and what you wanted would somehow find its way to you. Your blog could explode without you ever promoting it; you can get tons of clients without ever marketing your business; you could fall ass backwards into a ton of money without ever getting a job.
But, most of us are not at that sort of vibration, not even close actually. The idea of doing absolutely nothing probably doesn’t feel that good, and we don’t want that now do we?
So, taking certain actions are good in the sense they make us feel like we are moving towards what we want, and we have an expectation we will get it. The key is how you feel when you are taking these actions, and not getting attached to any one specific channel.
You want to take actions that are cultivating good feelings that bring you closer in alignment. Actions that make you feel yucky, and are trying to control the ‘how’ are not good. These are the actions of which you need to be vigilant.
If you are looking for a job for instance, it might make you feel good to contact some people in hopes they can give you some leads, or put your resume up on some job search sites. So long as you are not doing that with a pervasive fear that if you do nothing, you’ll never get a job, then go for it.
If you own a blog and are looking to get your site out there, and bring in more readers, you may feel compelled to comment on other blogs. If it makes you feel good to read these posts and leave insightful comments, go for it. If it feels forced, and that you must do it or else no one will ever find out your site exists, it isn’t a good idea.
The type of action you really want to focus on is inspired action—the type of activities you are led to by your intuitive nudges, that feel good to you, and don’t feel like work. When we are working from a space of inspiration, we get results with much less effort.
And, like I discussed earlier, don’t panic if something ‘bad’ happens when you act from a place of inspiration–it was meant to be that way to show you blocks that still exist, so it’s a good thing.
Beliefs like ‘no pain no gain’ have been deeply instilled in our minds, and we associate success with hard, unpleasant work. The ‘fun’ stuff is only to be engaged in after the drudgery is done, and that is not how it has to be.
Remember, how you feel is the most important thing. Watching funny movies and laughing hysterically for three days straight will get you what you want faster than feeling like crap, and forcing yourself to do all sorts of things that you don’t want to do, but feel you must in order to get results. I know…crazy, but true.
Let you feelings be your guide when deciding whether to act or not.
How Can I Feel Good Now?
Feeling good now is the key to getting LOA to work in your favor rather than against you, in case that hasn’t been clear up until this point. And by against you, I don’t mean the Universe punishing you for your ‘bad’ thoughts and feelings. This magical force is neutral and is just responding to what you are throwing out there.
You attract based on your feelings in the moment, so you have to feel good before you get whatever it is you want. You can’t tell yourself you’ll feel better once it arrives, or you will be waiting for a long time, or maybe forever.
So, you think.. how can I feel good now? How can I not put all my focus on what is missing and the fact my ‘stuff’ hasn’t arrived yet? It seems really hard, and the worse you perceive your circumstances to be, the harder it seems to shift your energy.
But, it is not as hard as you think if you realize one core tenet of this principle—you aren’t actually after whatever specific desire you have, you are after a feeling. And, if you can find ways to cultivate those feelings now, what you want will float into your experience in some shape or form.
This part can take a bit of work because you have a lot of momentum behind your negative feelings—they have been around a long time and have lots of power. But, you have to do this work or else you will stay stuck.
You have to focus on the good in your life; you have to work on being grateful for what you do have. You have to find the time to do the things that match the feeling of what you are trying to attract.
If you don’t like your job, for example, you can’t keep putting out that energy of displeasure. You need to find a way to look at it differently. Focus on the things that aren’t so bad about it, like your nice boss or your awesome co-workers. It doesn’t have to be anything major, it just has to be something that makes you look at it differently, that helps cultivate some good feeling about it.
And, don’t worry..if you don’t feel good all the time, you can still get what you want. You will probably just slow down the process a bit, but it’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up too badly, and just work on trying to feel better.
Thinking about What I Want Doesn’t Make Me Feel Good.. Am I Screwed?
When reading about LOA from various sources, you have probably come across people telling you that you must visualize your desire, focus on it and keep that picture steadily in your mind. But, when you do this visualizing, you don’t feel so great, and you start worrying you won’t get what you want because you can’t maintain these positive feelings for any sustained amount of time.
The idea of visualizing makes you feel really stressed, and triggers thoughts and feelings that are the exact opposite of what is required to alter your current reality. Well, I have some good news for you. There is no direct correlation between visualizing what you want, and actually getting it. The attraction process is based on your energy—which is determined by your thoughts and feelings.
Visualization can be a great tool—it helps you clarify and fine tune your desire. It is a great way to identify any resistance you have around what you want, so pay close attention to the icky feelings that arise to define these limiting beliefs. When visualizing feels good, it is an awesome way to cultivate warm, fuzzy feelings and put you in alignment.
Again, the key is all about how you feel, so as long as you are feeling good, and taking your inspired actions when they strike, you will get what you want. You can do anything that makes you feel good, it doesn’t have to have any direct correlation to the area of your life in which you are trying to manifest a specific result.
So, don’t force yourself to visualize when it doesn’t make you feel good; don’t worry about thinking about what you want every second of the day. The Universe has your back—it knows what you want, and it won’t forget.
So, that is my two cents on these common stumbling blocks. I hope I cleared up some confusion for you, and reinvigorated your attraction efforts if you were feeling a bit stuck.

Great post to kick off my week! Thanks for the reminders.
Hi Rosalind
Thanks for stopping by…go glad you liked it!
Kelli,
This is a great article for people who are getting stuck on applying the principles of the Law of Attraction. You addressed a lot of the issues I’ve had with it over the years. I think the key (and we’ve talked about this before) is to let go of that feeling of “need” behind the things you want, because you’re right, that just makes you feel bad about them! If you’re comfortable with any outcome, things seem to fall right into place.
Have a great day!
Hey Brittany!
Nice to see you around these parts again. I am so glad you liked it. It was one of those articles that really flowed for me, and I really felt people would connect with it because I know in my own work, I didn’t quite grasp these concepts, and it slowed me down. Once I finally ‘got it’ my energy completely shifted and I started seeing results faster and with less effort. It truly is amazing. Dropping that feeling of needing something is one of the toughest because that is a natural feeling that comes up when we think about the lack of the things we in our lives we think would make us happy. But, if we stick with the process long enough and let the principles really seep in, it gets easier to let go of that feeling. Like you said, being okay with whatever happens is the best way to go about it as everything that occurs is there to move you towards what you want.
The law of attraction is a very potential force, when i read the book and watched the video, my life changed. Thanks for sharing this post.
HiJoy
Thanks for stopping by and for your comment. I am so glad you enjoyed the post. It is amazing how one piece of information can really change our lives when it is something that just resonates with us.
Hi KC,
“But, it is not as hard as you think if you realize one core tenet of this principle—you aren’t actually after whatever specific desire you have, you are after a feeling.”
That sums up our life. You and me. We learned to feel good. We didn’t want stuff, or trips, or flight tickets. All give us cause for happiness, but we wanted the feeling experienced. That’s it.
Awesome post because so many are trying to manifest stuff instead of manifesting of a good feeling experience. Which requires you to manifest a good feeling experience this split second no matter what stuff you see around you.
Your post wonderfully explains how this LOA bit is all about an inside-out shift. Feel good now, be grateful now, dance now, laugh now, and all the good feeling things you’re allowing in, will find you, as you act inspired, help folks from a light space, and detach more and more from stuff.
Brilliant. Thanks KC.
Tweeting in a bit.
Ryan
Hi Ryan
You are so right about that…stop trying to manifest stuff and start manifesting the feelings. Realizing this was a real game-changer for me. It really is that simple, it can just take a bit before the truth seeps in deeply enough to be applied consistently.
The law of attraction is so incredibly powerful and you have written an awesome post here. I think I need to read it several times to fully digest it.
We do really need to train our subconscious mind for what we desire in life. It is not enough to just think about what we want, we really do need to FEEL it. That is where the difference will come in.
Is this easy? Absolutely it’s not. and I know its something I struggle with every day. I havnt got it right yet either, as if I did, I wouldn’t be where I am now…..but I know I am on the journey at least and that’s the start!
Hubby and I have recently set up our vision boards, and it is in a prominent place of the house, so we are looking at it all the time. It’s amazing how powerful it was to do. Most of our friends think we have lost the plot because of it, but hey…..you should never let other people kill your dreams!
Awesome post here Kelli 🙂
Hey Catherine
Thanks so much for your comment. I am so glad you liked the post. You are so right about that..it is really about the feeling. Thinking the thoughts can get us there for sure. I think a lot of people get stuck because they are ‘thinking’ the thoughts but how they feel is completely different. Once I realized the importance of feeling, I knew that thinking specific thoughts weren’t necessary nor was visualization–though like I said in the post, is a great tool if it makes us feel good. Anything we can do to get us into that feeling is good, whether it is related to our desire or not.
It sounds like you are committed, and you have probably seen some results already which strengthens the faith in the concept. It can take a bit to root out the contradicting beliefs..I know I still am for sure.
Vision boards are great..I used to have one with a computer program that allowed you to make one online and you could put it on and watch it on your screen..I can’t remember the name of the product though.
That is right..never let other people get in the way. I always say focus on the advice of people who seem to be what you want to be and have the things you want to have…almost all of those people are going to tell you mindset and their beliefs were a primary ingredient. Ignore the people who are unhappy or just living ‘okay’ lives as they will have a very different set of beliefs that will not serve you. That successful and happy people have a very empowering set of beliefs is not just some grand coincidence.
I’ve been going through a rough time lately, and this is exactly what I needed to read. I love the LOA, but it’s a complicated practice and I had forgotten some of the basics of it that you have written here. Thanks for posting this, know that it’s helped a lost soul out there!
Hey Bobby
Thanks for stopping by..I am so glad you found the post helpful. It can be complicated..not because it is inherently hard, but because of all the beliefs we have taken in over the years. They have been so deeply ingrained, moving into the mental space to get LOA working in our favor can seem really hard sometimes since it is such a drastic departure from the way we have been thinking and what we believe is required of us to find ‘success’. I still have my stuff I am working through as well. So long as you have that core belief it is real, you will continue to make progress. Sometimes it may be slower, but I believe we are always moving towards what we want, and anything that pops up is there to help us see where we need to tweak things.
Kelli,
It can be a challenge to let go and make peace from where you are. For me, I’m on a temp. assignment. I’ve been wanting/manifesting a specific job (since July) and the person is still unable to hire me. I feel like I’ve given up the possibility for this job because the person isn’t leaving. I’m appreciating some of the good things right now in my temp assignment, but I feel anxious because I don’t know what I want to do. I don’t feel that I can let go of worries since I want a permanent position. Although I try to get into the feeling of what I would like, I feel like I’m stuck because I have to take “action” (applying for jobs) immediately. I get the inspired action part, but I feel that I can’t just wait for months till the “perfect’ job ad shows up, because that does not appear to be working either. These actions make me feel more anxious. Any thoughts or ideas?
Hi Cissy
You are right..it can be hard. We become very accustomed to focusing on what we don’t like presently, and our negative emotions are powerful. We have a lot of momentum built up behind them. The main issue you are having is an attachment to this specific job, and thinking the only way you can get a permanent job is getting THIS job opening up for you. There are countless jobs out there for you, and the ways in which you can line up with them are infinite…for example, you could run into an old friend who works in the HR department of his company and offers you an interview. You could end up having a random conversation with someone in a coffee shop, get to talking about your situation and he knows of a company that is hiring for your type of position, and he gives you the contact information. You could receive a spark of inspiration out of nowhere to visit some random website and it contains a listing for open positions. It is truly infinite.
As for the taking action, you don’t actually have to apply for jobs, as that is not the only way to get them. Now, of course, not doing that might make you feel really anxious for example, and taking action may help sometimes in the sense it helps you feel better and creates the expectation you will get what you want. The key is not to get attached to that channel as a means of delivering the job…it may come that way, or it may come in a completely different way. It is all about the energy behind the actions we take.
There seems to be a lot of attachment around the ‘how’ this job will come about and that is what is messing with your energy. Right now, the best thing you can do is work on feeling okay with how things are now, even if a temp position is not the most ideal scenario, and focus on just feeling good for the sake of it, without putting direct focus on feeling good around the idea of getting a job, or thinking about that all the time. That will raise your energy overall, and once our energy improves, it opens the door for improvement in all areas of our life. Be willing to accept that the solution is out there, even if you can’t see it yet…this admission is very powerful.
I am currently trying to get to the place where I no longer ‘how’ my dreams will come true because I know this is blocking me. Any suggestions?
Hi Denise
Thank you for your comment. Not thinking about the ‘how’ is tough because our minds naturally want to search for solutions, make plans and figure stuff out. The most important thing you can do is focus positively on what you want so you can build some nice positive energy…when we open up that energy, it opens up the path to getting what we want, and you will begin attracting ideas, inspirations, encounters and other things that will make you see that you can indeed get what you want, and you’ll start to relax a bit more about exactly how the path will unfold. We can’t ever know…all we can ever see is the next step and flowing that energy towards what we want is what will allow us to attract that next step. It is also important to remember that no matter what you want, you want it because you think it will make you feel a certain way, and there are lots of ways to get that feeling, and you can do things to feel those feelings now…and when you start seeing you can feel happier now, even if certain things are still missing in your physical experience, it helps you lighten up a bit more about the manifestation you want because you realize it’s not absolutely crucial to your happiness. And that reduces a lot of resistance and the tendency to always wonder how it will come will diminish.
