Podcast #100: Law of Attraction: Should You Not Want Specific Things?

Our wants are typically being formulated by our mind, and to say what it wants may not be the best representation of what we are really after, cannot be overstated. When we view the law of attraction as a ‘tool’ to manipulate our reality, and get all the stuff our mind wants, we are in for a bumpy ride.

  1. I actually heard a preview of this podcast before it went live. It was really, really good. Don’t ask me how I got an illegal copy.

The Universe deals not in specifics, but feelings. If you want a feeling, kewl beans, but if you get specific and say, “That feeling must be wrapped up in this handsome guy I am SSOOOOO attached to (fear energy) or Little Debbies Swiss Cake Rolls (?, although easily manifestable) or this specific house”, the manifesting process goes to custard. You stopped focusing on the feeling because of fear, and attached to a thing, because of fear of losing it, or with the energy that you are TOTALLY aware that you don’t have it or haven’t manifested it, and you are done. Forget about it.

Feelings, feelings, feelings, this is what you want. Feel the way now by cultivating some appreciation for what you see, in the moment, and you will begin to lay a foundation for effective manifesting of cool stuff.

  2. Thank you so much for this Kelli! I’ve had the experience twice now of feeling like my heart and my intuition are wrong, and you are the only person that I’ve been able to find who has explained what’s going on. Thank you so much!!!

    1. Hi Lynn
Thanks for your comment and I am glad you found that piece of the puzzle! It can be a game changing piece of information!

  3. HI Kelli,
I was just writing out my thoughts on wanting something specific, (or better like you have said) and I thought: it’s simply just a feeling and a knowing that it is yours. a knowing that you can’t put into words. It made me think of this specific podcast (which is very helpful BTW!) If I have wanted something or even someone for a while, and I just know that it will be mine and I feel that way too – is that necessarily wrong, or too strong? I of course am open to other things knowing that there could be better possibilities for me, but I gravitate back to one specific thing..which obviously can be dangerous.

    1. Hi Sophie
Sometimes we do have that ‘knowing’ and you may be spot on but just remember that can often be ‘tainted’ by fear, attachment and other energies that make our mind really want a specific thing to be ‘the’ thing. Just be open–that will never work against you, ESPECIALLY if the ‘thing’ is a ‘someone’ 😉

  4. Hi Kelli,

This post helped me a lot in putting things in perspective. However, I have one question. Wouldn’t this way of operating create more anxiety and confusion within us? We say thoughts have power but we are also saying that what you think might not be what it means. I feel like most of the time, I don’t give much weightage to specifics because throughout my life I’ve been taught that opportunities are abundant, but I feel that has caused me to feel debilitating in understanding when something is right in front of me. So I’m working through confusion a lot. How many things can I leave behind saying that something better will follow? With this mode of operating aren’t you forgetting that you’re supposed to be happy in the present to get what you want? You’re constantly looking for opportunities to escape to some future instead of accepting what is.

I hope I made sense. Ive been following your blog a lot lately as I’m sure you’ve noticed. Your writing and a bang on approach to LOA has made me overcome a lot of hurdles. Thanks!

    1. Hi Snig
The idea isn’t to literally want absolutely nothing…it’s okay to want ‘broader’ specifics like love, money, better health, etc…It’s okay if you want your business that you feel passionate about to succeed, etc… What I’m really talking about here is when our mind zeros in on very specific things–like a particular person for example–and gets very attached to that one representation of our manifestation and concludes we can only be happy if this thing happens. This can lead to trying to control things, closing us off to other possibilities, etc… The language you use in your comments, such as describing debilitating anxiety here for example, suggests you have a lot of emotion and fear you are likely not dealing with, and I suspect you are in a mode of right now of trying to ‘figure out’ how the LOA works so you can do it ‘right’ and this will just add to the anxiety. The most important thing for you to do right now is deal with the energy you have now and when you clear some of that out, you will get a better sense of what you want, what would make you happy and any steps you feel you can take to move towards these things
