Theory and reality of manifesting–two different worlds. Something I have discussed a lot. The law of attraction really isn’t a complicated concept to wrap our heads around. Intuitively, we recognize a truth, even if it hasn’t been a truth we have been personally living.
Like attracts like. You are a powerful creator. The Universe is set up to work for you and not against you and be your partner in co-creation.
You activate vibrations of what you want by setting intentions, and strengthening that energetic magnet, by way of tools and techniques like affirmations and vision boards. You are worthy and deserving of the very best the human experience can offer for no other damn reason than you exist here, and you are meant to experience all that. You don’t have to ‘do’ anything or ‘prove’ anything, you just receive.
So belief in this Universal law would seem to be the only thing that is necessary to experience this wonderful reality in which the world is your oyster, you are always safe and okay, and anything is possible so long as your energy lends itself to showing up in your personal corner of the world.
But like any ‘theory’ real world conditions are not accounted for, and the energy most of us are bringing to the table when we embark on this exciting journey of conscious creation, is nowhere near this theoretical energy that allows us to attract all manner of awesomeness essentially effortlessly.
There are some vibrational ‘roadblocks’ we must tend to first; some things we need to ‘clean up’ if you will.
So it stands to reason simply believing in energy and your capabilities may not be enough to move the needle vibrationally in any real, lasting, consistent way.
A lot of ‘stuff’ went into creating the belief system you are working to change now. There is a reason you have a more ‘negative’ view of the world, how it works and most likely yourself. There is a reason you weren’t already buying into this warm, fuzzy way of looking at reality and everything we are doing here, everything we are capable of doing here, both on an individual and collective level.
So part of this process for the average human will be contending with all our ‘humanness.’
Do You Really Believe?
One of the most important things to understand about transitioning to a conscious creator, and making this incredibly empowering belief system your own, is this is a process that starts with some sort of intellectual understanding and acceptance of this Universal law, but that this does not constitute true belief.
Something clicks with it; perhaps you even brushed up a bit on quantum physics, a branch of science that makes a very compelling argument the Law of Attraction is indeed a very real thing.
It is the force that makes the world go round in a sense, it is not making a vision board to manifest more money or get back your ex-boyfriend.
THE LOA IS NOT A TOOL…for the love of God, you must understand this if you want to make any real headway. This misconception keeps people from doing any of the ‘work’ that actually matters, hence no changes.
You must realize intellectual understanding and acceptance of deliberate creation, again, does not mean you actually truly believe it on the deeper levels of your being.
Yes, you had that intuitive understanding; something about it makes sense to you even on a logical level. Trust that and keep going.
But most of us aren’t used to intuition and intuitive understanding guiding our decisions, determining what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’, what is true and untrue. We are not accustomed to trusting our feelings as some sort of guidance system alerting us to what is real and not real, truth and lies.
If you don’t know this system already, it’s pretty simple.
If something feels good, it’s true. Things like you are loved and supported, you can influence your life by way of managing your inner world, you are worthy inherently, the Universe has your back, and so on and so forth.
If something feels shitty, it’s not true. Things like life is meaningless, random and chaotic, certain characteristics about yourself–gender identity, race, sexual orientation, religion– put you at an insurmountable disadvantage in life, you are either lucky or unlucky.
But I digress. So yes, it is not likely you will cast off years and years of conditioning and living from a space where logic, reasoning and intellectualizing guided your every move simply because something feels right about the law of attraction and operating from a completely different mentality.
That intuitive knowing, that spark that got lit when you recognized a very powerful truth is up against some pretty ingrained conditioning that set you up for basically the polar opposite energy you are requiring for your fab new life.
So for a lot of you, when you say you ‘believe’ that might not quite be accurate. You are likely still more firmly entrenched in intellectual understanding, confusing that for true acceptance and belief on a deeper level.
And that’s okay…we all have to start somewhere. The key is you have to be willing to admit this is what may be happening.
Brutal honesty can be a conscious creator’s best friend when we start to realize we can’t ‘trick’ the Universe into defying our true vibration, and giving us stuff we actually aren’t a match to, when we realize the Universe is neutrally responding to the energy we are putting out there.
You don’t attract what you want my loves, you attract what you ‘are.’ So is your ‘being’ in line with what you want to receive?
For many of us, even the more ‘advanced’ this is one of our biggest issues–just because we ‘get’ the law of attraction doesn’t mean we have automatically done anything significant with our energy.
So where is your level of belief really at if you are being truly honest?
Is All of You On Board?
Theory vs. reality of manifesting. In reality, we have all sorts of conflicts surrounding the things we want to manifest. There is a part of us that may not even want what we seem to want so desperately on a conscious level.
And it’s hard to manifest something when a part of you has pegged this manifestation as a potential source of problems in your life.
Maybe you consciously want a boyfriend, but you are afraid getting into a serious relationship is the first step on the road to sacrificing your career and other personal ambitions to motherhood. Look what happened to your mother and most of your friends after all.
Maybe you consciously want money but you are afraid an improved financial situation will attract unwanted attention from less financially-savvy relatives, or maybe you equate professional success with lots of hard work and sacrifice…um, no thanks.
Maybe you consciously want to lose weight..but what if you do and still nothing gets better? Right now, it’s easy to use the extra pounds as a scapegoat for why you don’t have a relationship or a better job.
It might be terrifying to face the real fear–you simply aren’t good enough, smart enough or lovable enough for any of those good things to come for you.
This is a really common issue for people, especially if you can honestly say you have made real headway on your belief system, how you focus your attention and how you view yourself.
And a very important thing to keep in mind as you tease out these potential energetic conflicts–a lot of the stuff you discover may seem very ‘cliched.’ Sorry to break it you, but we’re not as complex and complicated as we can seem, especially when it comes to common energetic roadblocks. When it comes to limiting beliefs and fears, most of us are ‘basic bitches’ in this regard.
So don’t brush off obvious things like fear of success or intimacy, or simply feeling like you don’t deserve what you want because well…what’s so special about you? Cliches are cliches for a reason, remember.
Are You Missing the Stepping Stones?
Will you meet your soulmate the next day once you have decided you are ready to receive him? Possibly, but if you don’t, doesn’t mean anything went wrong. Will you be booked solid with clients the first week you open up shop for business? Possibly, but if not, doesn’t mean anything went wrong.
And this is also a good time to remind anyone out there who may be operating under one of the misconceptions that causes many to dismiss the teaching altogether–the law of attraction isn’t magic.
I wish I could give some sort of official breakdown of how long something ‘should’ take to show up if you are aligned, at what point you would know there is a problem so you can do some energetic ‘troubleshooting’,etc…
But unfortunately, can’t do that. But what I can do is remind you many manifestations happen in a progression as you align more and more closely with the energy that matches your desired reality.
You start seeing lots of cute guys everywhere, when as early as last week, it had been months since you saw anyone that even interested you in the slightest. Stepping stone. You are opening up the energy and you are manifesting evidence what you want is possible.
You may not be booking new clients right away, but you have been attracting lots of opportunities that could result in clients and sales–a podcast interview, a speaking engagement or some other opportunity to get yourself out in front of your target market. Stepping stone.
But instead of recognizing these manifestations for what they are, we either dismiss them completely or shit all over them because it’s not the ‘final’ thing.
You didn’t talk to any of those cute guys you have been seeing so who cares? Yeah, the podcast was really fun, but you need clients damn it.
Like most of us, you are focusing on what you don’t have yet, what you don’t want, and totally missing all the awesome signs that show you are moving in the right direction.
That shit is on us, plain and simple. You can let your ego take over, throwing its temper tantrums you don’t have what you want, and you are totally justified in feeling shitty and lamenting your current reality. But know you are going to suffer and slow shit down.
You don’t have to have an orgasm over finding five dollars in the street, or seeing an ad to visit the very country you just decided that morning you wanted to visit. But still…recognize what’s happening and be conscious of where you are putting your attention. Stop being a whiny, complaining asshole basically. 😉
You Have No Idea What the Path Will Look Like
I wish I could automatically type that out a million times.
Newsflash…your mind doesn’t know shit about shit and has no idea what is at play here, and cannot even begin to fathom infinite possibility, and the infinite combination of circumstances that perfectly support the path, even if it doesn’t look like it to your mind.
One of the things that will send us into a vibrational tizzy more than anything else is our insistence on applying some sort of judgment to every damn thing that happens in our lives, and then allowing this judgment to fuck with our vibe somehow. Everything has to be ‘good’ or ‘bad.’
If we have even the slightest negative emotional reaction to something, the mind automatically relegates the experience to the ‘bad’ category. And it points to all the ways things have gone wrong, how this thing means you won’t get what you want, blah, blah, blah.
And guess where our focus is when we do this–what we don’t want to happen, what we still don’t have and what we don’t like about our current reality. Even the most green, wet-behind-the-ears LOA newbie sees the problem with this.
You want to manifest more money but then you get fired from your job. Clearly that’s ‘bad’ because now you have even less money, you obsess over what possibly could have gone ‘wrong’ and you activate even more strongly the already deep fear that drove you to want more money in the first place.
But maybe that ‘bad’ thing was a ‘good’ thing because it would have allowed you to find a better job with double the salary. But you took yourself off that potential trajectory when you started obsessing over the lost job and how ‘bad’ it was and how much it was going to fuck up your life.
Your Life is Belief in Action
You really want an accurate marker for determining what you truly believe?
Look at your life. Everything you do is motivated by your belief system, your view of yourself, where you focus your attention.
Your life is your beliefs manifest. For all of you claiming confusion about your vibration…this little nugget of wisdom should clear it up quite nicely, provided you are willing to bust out the aforementioned brutal honesty.
I can’t stress to you enough how lying about how you really feel will do absolutely nothing for you in this process but increase your suffering.
You claim you trust in the Universe to deliver you more abundance, but you keep taking the freelancing jobs from that pain in the ass clients who pay shit. That doesn’t sound like someone who has much faith. It sounds like someone who is still making financial decisions from a place of fear, scarcity and lack, who is not trying to ‘thrive’ but simply ‘survive.’
Then you are scratching your head, wondering where all the lucrative clients are..really?
You claim you trust things can come together the easy way, but in reality, you constantly try to force situations that aren’t coming together easily, manipulate people and circumstances to ensure maximum control of your manifestations and continue to create results through hard work that feels really shitty.
Then you wonder why nothing ever seems to work out for you, or you aren’t manifesting with the extreme ease about which you were told…um, sure.
You claim you are feeling really aligned with receiving money, you say your lovely affirmations everyday, but every time you cut a check for a bill, you feel like you are losing money and resent it. Anytime you have to spend more than 20 dollars unexpectedly, your stomach hurts.
Then you are at a total loss, absolutely bewildered about why the money isn’t pouring in…ooookaaaay.
So, how are you moving through the world? What is it saying about what you believe?
Your Turn
What did you think? Anything resonate in particular? What vibrational blocks have you discovered about yourself that helped move things along?

“You have no idea what the path will look like” – I have finally gotten to a place where for me this is incredibly exciting because I can’t wait to “get there” and then look back in glee and see how things effortlessly fell into place.
If I’d gotten what I wanted when I thought wanted it, I wouldn’t have been ready for it and would have messed it up again. So I stopped fighting with planning the outcomes and started enjoying and appreciating the journey knowing that it will happen when I’m aligned with it.
Great post, thanks so much!
Hi Tiffany
You are right…it will be effortless when you are aligned. But just be sure to focus on the journey still…I suspect you are still a bit attached to the destination 😉 But we all are basically so is what it is I suppose. I suspect you are aligned very nicely and I know you have done a lot of the inner work to clean up your vibe and manifest less from that space of need and lack…that is always a huge thing.
A recent aha I’ve had lately and that you have reinforced in this blog post, it that I don’t have to stress about every action I take. Like whether it’s aligned or not aligned. I’m seeing life as a journey filled with fun things, sometimes scary things sometimes uncomfortable things, and they are all for my highest good. The relief in this “aha” is that I can’t really do manifesting wrong, the Universe will always keep directing me towards my highest good and it feels better when I let go and enjoy the ride rather than stress about what I’m doing or not doing. Another thing is to be ok with taking baby steps towards something even if others are telling you leap, if it feels better to take baby steps then take them, if you want to leap, leap. Everyone’s journey is unique and individual – some of us need to go all in quickly and others of us may want to just dip our toes in the pool at first – it’s all good, do it the way you want to do it. I really like this post too because you always point out the difference between intellectualizing this belief and actually “being” the person who embodies or internalizes this belief at the heart level. We need to let ourselves get there – to that heart level of belief – without so much pressure to have it now – it’s a process. Thanks Kelli – great post!
Hi Kimberly
Thanks for your comment and you are right…don’t stress about action. You’ll do stuff but it is all about changing the energy and intention behind it, remembering energy truly creates and action is just a manifestation of that energy. And you are right…this is a very individual journey. Everyone has different goals, a different vision, a different idea of what is ‘happy,’ how deeply they want to go.
This crap ain’t happening in a lab guys. Energy is messy sometimes. We get scared, retreat from resistance, struggle, move forward. What a delicious journey. Whether you are looking for your glasses or….
Hi Ry
I like that…you are right. Not a lab. Real life, real messy, complicated pain-in-the-ass life!
Great post, Kelli, thank you! Where I find myself getting stuck when things don’t manifest is wondering if I need to clean up my vibration (I’m thinking satisfaction but not really feeling satisfied, as you said above), or if I’m doing okay and I just need to ride out the given situation while the Universe lines up the cooperative components for me. Excellent point about noticing the stepping stones along the way and appreciating them!
Hi Patricia
Thanks for your comment and I am so glad you enjoyed it. You have been around here for awhile! I always like to keep the big picture in mind and manage my energy on a more general level. This seems to take care of everything else. Of course, I know when I need to go more deeply into a specific aspect of it–money, health, etc…–or take a beat and analyze a manifestation a bit. When we can remember that none of the stuff we want is what we actually want, it makes us relax a bit when we realize we may need to do some work on our energy, etc… We are not in as much of a rush to force these things into our experience, and we can more easily do the very ‘work’ that will get these things to us.
Hi Kelli!
I swear I get a good neck exercise every time I listen or read your “nuggets of wisdom”. I just nod and nod in agreement – and thankfully understanding! But as you said, we can intellectually understand a belief until we’re blue in the face and it wouldn’t matter if we’re really not feeling and dealing with what’s behind those beliefs that we allow to work against us. I can certainly admit I sometimes get stuck on the outcome of what I want, and not appreciate the “stepping stones” on the way there. But when I do step back, and just be, I realize – especially in my relationships – that most situations are mirrors (which you’ve talked about as well). And if we take the time to look at that, see and “feel” what’s it truly telling us about our beliefs, we get that much closer to understanding what’s really going on within ourselves – not always pretty, but that’s ok! And again, not just understanding intellectually, but deep in the core of who we really are, as you said – loved and supported 🙂
As always, thank you for breaking it down!
Letty

Hi Letty
So glad my post also gave you a bit of physical exercise! Now that is value. You have a great energy in all your comments and I have no doubt you do truly understand the stuff I say, even the more radical out-there views! All of us are prone to dismissing the stepping stones, being focused on outcomes, etc… The key for me was not trying to get rid of that part of me or get my mind to stop doing those things…it was about removing the charge of the dialogue and not letting this part of me influence my thinking and behavior so much. That goal was a lot easier to accomplish and led to much improvement in my life. And yes, we are loved and supported in ways our puny human minds can’t even begin to understand!
Hi Kelli,
I’ve been reading your fab posts and I find really helpful.. I’ve been living in principles of loa for two years now and my life has been full of miracles and pleassings. I finished training in my dream career while still working in my old job.
It has been going very smoothly for me.
Now I’m a bit stacked. My new career is very competitive but I know I’m on the right path. The biggest problem is that I really struggle financially. There are some ‘potential manifestations’ lining up but I’m scared of hoping the ‘relief’ would come via them because I understand I shouldn’t get too attached to any specific channel. My question is: what are your thoughts on ‘potential manifestations’, ie. Is it ok to hope the certain thing will come though from the specific channel when there is already evidence that it might?
Thank you so much for doing this work!
Ty
Hi Ty
Thanks so much for your comment and I am so glad you find my content such a helpful resource for you. This question is a really good example of how what we try to achieve ‘energetically’ doesn’t really make sense logically. Logically, of course we should pour all our energy and attention into these ‘expected’ sources of income like our business, etc… But when we understand how energy works and how that influences our reality, this logical attachment to specific channels poses a problem. It is good to have positive expectation a manifestation may come through certain channels and ‘work’ them in as energetically a friendly way as possible. But it is just understanding the true source of abundance is the Universe, not our clients, our products or the place we work. Energetically we want to feel as detached as possible from anything external as being the ‘only’ way something can happen, etc…
Thank you so much for your response Kelli! Very helpful! I do understand it’s all about focusing on your energy at the moment and not to worry too much about what might happen. The Best results have always come to me when I least expect anything to happen. It is sometimes very challenging though not to let your mind get too occupied with certain sources/channels that you expect manifestation to come! At least I’m aware of it now :-).
Ty
Awareness will be the best tool in your arsenal. That alone changes the energy of something that was running rampant totally hidden from you. Just observe, don’t engage emotionally as best you can and you’ll see a big change.
Hi, thanks for this very helpful article. I agree that it’s to do with dealing with energy blocks but what should one do if while working on these blocks one starts worrying and getting panicked about how life and things will pan out? Surely it adds negativity.
Thanks
Hi Nooh
This is where it is important to understand the power of intention. Feeling negativity to purge it and stop it from having such a strong effect on your life, to get a better understanding of the roots of the pain, is therapeutic and helpful. Just feeling sorry for ourselves and being upset thinking we can’t do anything about these circumstances isn’t helpful and this is what most of us are doing when we are being ‘negative.’
Hi Kelli! I just came across your blog, and girlll, I LOVE you!!
This was a gut-check post for me! I feel like I definitely push away the negative feelings and or thoughts and desperately seek the good ones. Because then I’ll get what I want… right?
Well, what I’ve been wanting is for a lover/ex to come back. It’s been about four months. I think the hard part for me, in all of this evolving, growing, and learning I’ve been doing (and I have!!! it’s been four months of absolute change for me as an individual), is that I have a very deep-seated and deep-rooted belief that: “well, why WOULD he come back? Why would that ever happen to you? He left you for a reason, because you’re not good enough, and you’re fooling yourself to think he’d ever come back.”
So, on one hand, I’m positive thinking, positive affirming, meditating, exercising, and trying to force myself into that good-feeling, high-flying vibration…
On the other hand, that FEAR, that he left for a GOOD reason and why would he EVER come back to someone like me…. is still there….
Thank you again for your excellent writing and the little bit of sarcasm and snark you threw in there. <3 <3
-Evie.
Hi Evie
That you can be honest about how you feel, what is motivating your desire, and the space from which you are trying to manifest from puts you ahead of like 99 percent of people trying to apply this teaching in their lives. Now you know what you are working with that will pose a problem, you can DO something about it. You would think more people would embrace this honest assessment of the very thing that is determining their reality…but us humans are a funny bunch! I am so glad you are enjoying the content and it is resonating.
Hi Evie,
We’re in a similar situation, except I’ve come to realize that he didn’t leave for any other reason than our energies were no longer matching up. It’s not that I’m not good enough, I’m fabulous! So I’ve decided to prefer that he come back but if not, I know without a doubt someone better will come along and our energies will match up and things will be more glorious than I can even imagine. Love always comes back multiplied. Always, it’s LAW. And you win either way. Honestly, if him leaving caused you to manifest the bounce into aligning with your inner being, then you already WON! You just have to maintain your fabulous vibe and wait for him (either old him or new him) to show up.
Tiffany…amazing! Got chills reading this. Evie…this woman knows her stuff…listen!!!
