How I Retired to Paradise Using the Law of Attraction

Today I am happy to bring you a guest post from my husband Ryan, who is quite the law of attraction maven himself.

He is sharing a few key tips on how he used LOA to build a successful online business and become an island hopping fool. Hope you enjoy it!

I am no Gandalf. I wish I was. Because I’m obsessed with the Lord of the Rings series. Too obsessed. Like, I watched each movie over 100 times obsessed.

Anyway, I don’t wave a wand and manifest results using the law of attraction. I ain’t that good. I am however fairly adept in the department of living my dreams.

Kelli and I retired to paradise using LOA principles. Sure we smacked into resistance along the way; going broke, being depressed, struggling to grow my online ventures – mind you, Kelli and I NEVER had a fight (sarcasm alert!) – but in the end, I write these words today from a villa in Jimbaran, Bali. A football-field sized property. A luxury villa. Where we happen to be house sitting for 6 months. Pretty sweet, eh?

I left my 9-5 job behind to build a full time income earning blog, over at Blogging from Paradise. That blog has helped me live in places like Fiji, Bali, Thailand, Laos, Costa Rica, Peru, India, Nepal, Vietnam, Malaysia and Cambodia for months at a time. I am blessed to be paradise living BUT I followed practical advice to mold this life.

You can’t manifest by sitting on your duff. Unless you’re enlightened. And since Jesus Christ may or may not be subbed to Life Made to Order, I’ll proceed based on the supposition that he may not be an active reader. MAY not, but could be, aight KC?

Anyway, this is how I retired to the tropics, to paradise, using the law of attraction.

1: I Got Clear on Why

I set an intent; I intended to free me, and to free you. Said intent got clearer after I released plenty of energetic junk in the trunk. Too much crap spewed into my life, and me, being the dingbat I was at the time, held onto junk. But I let go what need to be released, because I wanted to free me and to free you more than I wished to cling to crap. More on this in the next step/tip.

LOA devotees, the law of attraction is always in action, reflecting back to you your dominant intent. Your experience is a mirror. Change the experience by changing the intent. Intending to free me and you inspired me to publish an eBook a week, to start my blog in the first place, to connect with leaders, and to feel good throughout the process.

That’s the key: I needed to feel GOOD much of the time. Good, means good. Good, means sometimes,a bit uncomfortable. But my freeing vibe permeated the Universe and it created freedom for me. I didn’t go after money; striving for outcomes is binding, not freeing. Nor for fame, although Oprah, if you’re listening, I guess I can do an interview from Bali, Skype-style, to spread the Blogging from Paradise word.

I intended to free me, and that freeing vibe, freed me, and freed a ton of folks around me. LOA 101; your dominant vibe/intent mirrors back to you, through your experience.

2: I Let Go

I let go old friendships, old bonds, and an old way of living. Tough to retire to paradise if you’re living in a spot you don’t feel is paradise. New Jersey rocks on many levels, but to me, it’s not paradise. Bali, Phuket, Koh Lanta, Manuel Antonio and Penang, these spots are my view of paradise.

Different strokes for different folks of course.

Anyway, I retired to become a full time income earning, pro blogger, using the law of attraction, by letting go my employee, security guard job, and by letting go old bonds, and an old, worn out life in NJ. Ya can’t be in two places at once, energetically. Kelli, feel free to quote me on that when introducing this post.

Ya can’t be an island hopping, full time, pro blogger, and a retiree at that, while holding employee, New Jersey, energy. So the purge made this happen. Kelli and I sent out freeing energy by buying tickets to Bali without a return flight ticket. Four years later, to the day, we are back in Bali, after traveling the world, and we’ve only returned to NJ to see friends and fam here and there.

The LOA is always in action, and gives you what you intend. Most people intend chaos, and get it. Kelli and I intended a clear, focused energy, and made what seem to be bold moves – booking a flight, no return ticket – but the Universe doesn’t know boldness, it knows clarity. The Universe doesn’t know BALLSY, it knows direct.

Universe, I love you for being simple, and clear. It can only give you something when you are aligned, not just because you want it or are trying hard to get it.

This letting go feels highly uncomfortable, but it’s the freeing vehicle through which you move from an old life into a new life. Letting go precedes growing. Let go!

3: I Acted with the Freeing Intent

Now folks, I have slowly improved my neat manifesting abilities over this trip. I struggled for a while, even when I generated a full time income online in paradise, because I acted with a bound, scared, desperate intent. I switched things up though a while back and most of the time, I acted to free me and you.

Wonderful things happened.

My eBooks were endorsed by New York Times Best Selling Authors and Ambassadors for Oprah Winfrey’s network and by million dollar earners. Humbling deal, to say the least.

I detached more from outcomes, and I focused more on giving, because I was acting from a freeing space. It’s one thing to follow step one; to set the freeing intent, to get clear on your why. After that why question is answered, by you, you’ll let go the stuff, the bad energies, the packed suitcases of energetic poop, that you held onto, because your former why was connected to being bound.

Then, after you get rid of that stuff, you are FREE to be the person you want to be, and then, that means acting. With the freeing intent. And when you do that, you’ll attract the people, ideas and circumstances, to retire to a life of island hopping, in paradise.

Over the years I have moved away from vision boards and all that stuff. Each works so well, for people, who it works for. Energetically, I felt like the dreams were OUT THERE, and that energy pushed away my dreams. I manifested a different, struggling, miserable life.

Then, when I took this 3 step approach, I felt free, and I let go of binding ideas, people, circumstances, and my old life, and then, I acted largely from a freeing, inspired space.

Sometimes I acted from an uncomfortable, scared space, because I am human, but acting from a free space most of the time, creates a freeing vibe, which attracts to you the freeing actions, people, ideas and circumstances, and experiences, to live your most freeing dream.

It’s all energy guys. That’s the basis of the law of attraction.

Maybe I appeared to wave a wand, to manifest this neat life but in the end, I took 3 basic steps, that I take regularly, to manifest my most freeing life. For me, that version includes living in paradise, being retired from the grind of the 9-5, and being a full time, professional, prospering blogger.

  1. Ah but have you seen the extended movies RB? you know the one with the ‘Mouth of Sauron’? Cannot imagine you with a long beared dude. Actually you should grow one.

I think I always new my why and that is like you, or maybe not to life a life that free from the contraints of the 9-5 dude. I think my prob was when I set up my old new blog back in 2009 I was all over the place and was just looking out for number 1, being selfish and trying my damndest to get people to sign up to what I was promoting at the time. Man am I glad I don’t do that anymore. Wow thats impressive, I love what you say about Striving for Outomes

Thats my intention one day soon buddy, buying tickets with no return ticket, We have worked hard now and we have a house thats all paid for so really there is no excuse to let go. for me It’s really easy but it’s trying to convince the love of my life to let go and live the dream, hell I can do web design anywhere right! Perhaps with your help in december later in the year you can convince Lou as well. The think with lou is Change feels Strange. I got a taste of the Digital Nomad lifestyle last week and am now hooked.

    1. Hi Phill
Thanks so much for your great comment and sharing your experience. I think a lot of people can relate to making money and sales the top priority. Obviously that is an end goal for anyone trying to make a living but when we make it the sole driver that is top of mind always, that can really screw up our energy and make the journey much harder.

  2. Great post Ryan. It’s true that you really need to get rid of some junk. Most people don’t even realise they are carrying it around with them. Any time you have a negative or unpleasant feeling or emotion – that’s your junk that you need to clear. It’s amazing how free you feel afterwards. I had one of these major releases yesterday. I was wanting to win the lottery or receive some other great stroke of luck financially, but I still had the belief that I could only get money by working. So I spent my whole journey to work on the bus (I love my job so I would still go to work if I was rich) repeating “I trust the universe to provide for me” and “I manifest abundance effortlessly” and as soon as I got off the bus, I found a dollar coin on the ground! Then payroll of the agency I work for called me to tell me that I ticked the wrong box on my tax form so I would have been taxed at a higher rate. She didn’t have to do that, in fact my former agency didn’t bother to tell me. So the universe has heard me, and replied!
And since you asked – I love Fiji!

    1. Hey Bunny
I am so glad you liked his post. Those are awesome manifestations and it shows how quickly we can get into alignment when we really truly feel the truth of those kinds of statements. You are a manifesting machine my dear!

  3. Ryan, you are truly living a retiree life. The best thing is that you are leading your life on your own terms. It’s very difficult to leave our comfort zone. Leaving NJ must be a tough decision in the beginning, isn’t? You can make friends anywhere. But, the family is irreplaceable. It’s lovely to know that you have visited your family and relatives in between. You really a supporting wife.
I am also in the phase in framing the right career path. It is just a beginning period. It’s quite odd to break up the dull boring routine. I love all your points. But, I am going to embrace the first point close to my heart.
Thanks for providing a free and relaxed route to a wonderful life.

    1. Hi Yatin
It was a bit tough to leave that stuff behind…we miss family and friends but we know that isn’t the place for us to be right now. It sounds like you are in an exciting phase of starting new ventures and that is awesome. I am sure you will find success in whatever you do…you certainly have the right mindset.

  4. One thing for sure that I feel from you Ryan is relaxation. You are very relaxed now in everything you do, take on and feel. LOA has taught you well (I love Star Wars). Going through life this way is one of the keys, I believe. All wizards, gurus, wise men and such are very relaxed. They do not even bother with what is. Yoda certainly didn’t. He said size does not matter, it is all the same. He told Luke that he fails because he does not believe. And Luke was high-strung when he started out. We see him very relaxed in the last installment as a Jedi.

On another note, I wanted to ask you why the workplace is the way it is. Unless one is in love with their job, work is pure drudgery. I mean the corporate jobs. Is it because these jobs are based on beliefs that go against my own? Are they based on fear and scarcity? You have to listen to the boss or else the moon will go out of its orbit and collide into earth? When I did not listen to the boss I was actually never reprimanded but praised, unlike what others told me would happen. So, it is not the job itself but the people. Perhaps both. So, should we ask the universe to bring really awesome people in our lives instead of complaining about the job? Carolyn myss mentioned that most people are not fulfilling their destiny, and that is the reason there is so much depression and unease in the workplace. Also, there is a lot of verbal abuse and unfairness. How to avoid this? How to find the right gig, or do you just allow things and you float towards it?

    1. I think A that work places are as they are in some cases because of the lack and limitation you speak. Many employees sit in an office driven by fear. They want, because they lack, and do, because they fear, creating pretty fear-filled environs lol…..great comment, thanks!

    2. Hey A
Yes, he sure does love star wars and all those types of movies! You asked some interesting questions about the workplace and made some great observations. One thing that really impacts that aspect of life is that a large number of people share similar limiting beliefs about scarcity, competition, etc…and someone like yourself who has this different perspective will see how out of whack things are but others may not really realize it or they do but think there is nothing to be done. The best we can do at this moment is focus on our own professional desires and try to create that ideal existence in whatever way we can. Our shift in energy can create a very different experience in the workplace even if everyone else is staying pretty much the same…we will line up with different versions of people, have smoother interactions with customers, etc…

    1. Thanks so much Dennis! I have no doubt you will catch up and live your version of blogging from paradise, whatever that may be!

  5. Hi Phil and Kellie! I’ve been subscribing your blogposts since last year. Just wanna say thanks a lot for the huge motivations and inspirations! LOA has been helping me too since I was in school until now and I’m indeed very grateful of it.

In the above article, Phil mentioned that the universe will only give us something if we are aligned, not just because we want it or kept trying hard for it. What does that mean actually? I can’t get a firm grip on the statement. Would you mind explaining to me? Thank you 🙂

    1. Hi Safiani
I am so glad you are finding the posts helpful. It is amazing what we can do in our life when we consciously direct our focus to what we want instead of what we don’t.

As for that statement, it means that the energy that is everything is neutral and the Universe is not like a person that is judging us, deciding what we can have, etc… It can’t give us things that we are not a match to receiving just because we want it. It can’t prevent things from coming to us that we are attracting because they are ‘negative.’ It is like a computer…input and output.

  6. “You can’t be in two places at one”. I got goosebumps reading that! It resonates so deeply with my soul! Thank you so much! Now I finally realize I have to completely let go of the path I do not want to go, even if it sounds right and society-accepted. I’m so grateful to both of you.

    1. Hi Chau
Thanks so much for your comment and glad the post spoke to you. Sounds like you are getting the nudge from ‘big you’ to follow what you know to be right for you. Just remember as you gain more clarity about who you are and what you want, other people’s judgments, questioning and criticism carries less and less weight emotionally.
