Can you do a podcast or make a post about “when you feel drawn to something you don’t want to be drawn to.” For some context, I don’t want to go into counseling but I’m drawn to it. I like how it feels. I would rather do something more creative but my feelings tell me otherwise. How to deal with this dilemma?
So, for an issue like this, like many manifesting ‘issues’ what is going on with each of us is very personal. There wouldn’t be a blanket explanation for what is happening for every person in a similar situation.
There is no definitive answer of whether you should or shouldn’t do this or that, or what it all means. I couldn’t say for sure why someone would feel the pull to do something they don’t want to do.
I don’t know this person’s journey or what is happening in their energy or what this ‘dilemma’ is meant to help them address. What she means by ‘not wanting’ can be a variety of things.
Would be nice though right? Nothing our mind would love more.
So I’ll discuss some potential ‘issues’ that may apply and also get into what may be going on on a deeper level that is creating the ‘discord.’ There is always something more going on than what we are experiencing on the surface, conscious-mind level. Understanding that stuff is where we can really make some headway vibrationally speaking.
There’s Something There to Look At
No matter what we want, we want it because we think having or doing this thing would produce feelings we find desirable. Peace, joy, happiness, fulfillment; it might be a good reflection of our values.
And there are countless ways we could experience these feelings–this by the way, is why you want to be open to how what you want can manifest, what it may ultimately look like. Your mind may be attached to very specific representations of these feelings, and there is probably all sorts of other ways they could manifest for you that you can’t even think of now.
The question referenced her career specifically. The sort of feelings you are looking to experience in your professional life, the ways in which you want to help people, the skills and knowledge you wish to put to use–lots of different jobs can fit the bill.
She may feel like she wants to help people improve their lives, she wants to help people heal emotional trauma, help them become healthier mentally and emotionally. Helping people work on their deepest issues, the things causing them so much pain, making their life so difficult–that can be very profound and there is great satisfaction in that.
These might be the types of feelings she is looking for in her work so the idea of ‘counseling’ entered her mind. But if that isn’t what she wants to do, she doesn’t have to do that. The mind tends to translate the feelings we are after into specific representations of those energies…these ‘translations’ may or may not be the most accurate representations, and this is something we will discover sooner or later.
There are lots of ways to help people transform their inner world, help them live happier lives, from life coaching to energy healing to working for an organization that assists certain populations of ‘disadvantaged’ people…the list could go on and on.
She can give some thought to why she may feel that way, if there is something about the nature of that work that is appealing in some way, and use this insight to get more clarity.
She noted being drawn to doing something creative–whether she means art, writing, singing, dancing…it is possible she would find a way to combine these two elements. Doing art therapy, working for a creative writing program in a poor community…the possibilities are endless.
The bottom line is, there is some sort of insight here, there is something ‘important’ to see, something helpful. Any thoughts or experiences that create a strong emotional charge–both positive or negative–tend to have some value to them as far as helping us explore what is going on inside, and the better we understand what is going on inside, the easier it is to make positive changes on the outside.
This Journey May Change Us, Our Wants
As we get more into energy work, exploring our inner world, getting clarity on what we want, who we are and all that jazz, what we want may change. Sometimes these changes are very welcome and we feel very clear on them. Sometimes they aren’t, and this is due to the good old mind.
Even if you realize you don’t want to do something anymore, you don’t want a certain manifestation anymore, it can still feel extremely uncomfortable to let it go. You wouldn’t think this would be the case because you don’t want it anymore. But if we wanted it for so long, if we put a lot of energy into ‘getting’ it, it can feel weird to let it go.
We got very used to our wanting of a specific thing. If we felt very strongly for a long time about the type of life we wanted, felt very strongly we wanted this or that, it can be scary to let go. We may see our values change significantly–things that were so important before…don’t give a shit now. Things you didn’t think mattered before…they matter a lot now.
It puts us into this kind of ‘unknown’ space that feels very uncomfortable to the mind.
Moving into new territory feels scary. Feeling drawn to start your own business when you’ve been an employee all your life is scary.
Feeling drawn to leave a line of work that you’ve been in your whole life that has become a huge part of your identity in some way is scary.
Realizing you want to walk away from some big, exciting life to live more simply is scary.
Perhaps this person’s identity has always been heavily linked to ‘creative’ pursuits, perhaps she is good at some sort of creative ‘endeavor’ and thinks this means she ‘should’ do something along those lines.
Perhaps doing something ‘creative’ will help her create an identity she finds desirable in some way, will help present a certain image to others that she wants to present, will have people see her in a way she wants to be seen.
Like I mentioned earlier, all of this stuff is so personal and there can be countless things going on so can’t say for sure.
Don’t Rush Things
For most of us, this journey is going to lead to all sorts of actions, all sorts of changes, all sorts of decisions. And we often feel this rush to to achieve our goals, to get ‘settled,’ to ‘figure’ everything out, change what we don’t like now and all that jazz because we just want to make all the ‘bad’ feelings go away.
Our mind has done a bang-up job of convincing us the only way to achieve this is fixing the outside in one way or another. But as I am sure most of you are seeing the further you travel along your path, that’s not the answer, at least in the long-term.
It can be uncomfortable to not know what we want to do with our lives; it can be uncomfortable when our heart starts leading us in a different direction than our head has had us traveling, and we have to deal with all that brings up.
But the more you remind yourself the answers don’t lie in the outside changes, the easier it will be to go within and get things ‘right’ there, knowing that’s the key to everything you seek. Get things right on the level of ‘being’ and the ‘doing’ in all its forms becomes a lot easier.
The journey will no longer be primarily fueled by all sorts of tension, fear and anxiety that comes with being so externally focused, making it all about just getting what you don’t have, and trying to rearrange everything on the outside so your inner ‘ick’ can go back dormant.
If we can be honest with what is happening inside, if we take a look and see what’s there, all the confusion melts away. The next steps will reveal themselves. The clarity will come. You’ll know what you want to do professionally. You’ll know whether to leave your relationship or your job. You’ll know what paths make sense for you and which ones don’t.
If you don’t want to do something you don’t have to do it. I don’t think our ‘purpose’ would ever be something that doesn’t make us happy or that we don’t want to do.
