Harnessing the power of the law of attraction requires us to start paying more attention to pretty much everything–our thoughts, our feelings, our beliefs, our relationships, and the various experiences that make their way into our reality.
Reality creation does not require our conscious participation, and those of us learning about something like the LOA, are working on transitioning from creating unconsciously and by default to deliberately.
Instead of operating on auto-pilot and just ‘dealing with’ whatever shows up, we start increasing awareness of our inner world. We start giving some thought to why we have manifested what we have thus far, and what energetic obstacles might be responsible for the absence of the wanted things.
Our experience is simply a mirror of our inner world, and when we start paying closer attention to our manifestations, we can see what specifically is being mirrored back to us.
Once we start consciously engaging with our energy, we will manifest all sorts of things to show us limiting beliefs and perspectives that need to be transformed, give us the opportunity to be the person we want to be and make the choices we say we want to make, give us clarity, show us the aspects of our desire that we are aligned with and where we may need to tweak some things.
Given our intense need to make sure we are doing manifesting ‘right’, our love of action plans with some guaranteed result at the end, wanting to ‘figure out’ this whole law of attraction thing so we can control the process at every turn and the like, I know for a topic like this, we would love nothing more than a concrete set of steps, some sort of blue-print that we can whip out anytime we need to decode a manifestation and get some definitive answer.
But I regret I cannot provide that for you. What I can do however, is touch on some important points that will hopefully help you in our own energetic detective work.
Be Open to the Purpose of the Manifestation
I cannot stress this enough, I really can’t and I implore all you wonderful conscious creators to remain open to what a particular manifestation may be showing you. I know this is easier said than done. But if you can keep this nugget of wisdom in mind, oh the suffering you can save yourself.
Anything or ANYONE we manifest is because this thing matched something in our vibration. What that PARTICULAR something is may not always be so clear. It might not represent what your mind thinks it does, or WANTS it to.
So this means that the great guy you met may not be your future husband, no matter how much your mind thinks he is THE perfect person and everything you could ever want. You feel a strong resonance, your intuition is pinging. He must be it.
But again, you don’t know yet what the purpose of manifesting him was. We will usually feel a strong resonance with any person or experience that has something significant to teach us–this is a way for ‘big us’ to nudge us in the direction of something that will in some way help us on the path. We just don’t feel that for the ‘final’ manifestations, the ‘best’ representations or just for the ‘good’ stuff.
The first job interview you get after consciously working with your energy and giving this whole law of attraction thing a whirl might not be the dream job. I know your mind thinks it MUST be because it showed up after you started doing all your ‘work’ and this is the thing you want,so yeah, this must be it. But it might not be.
You don’t get it but you weren’t supposed to get it. Maybe you manifested it to show you that you still have a lot of resistance somewhere. Maybe you manifested it to bring a belief to light that you were totally unaware of but that is crucial to clear in order to help you get a job you like.
Again, just be open to what you are being shown.
Nothing Ever Goes ‘Wrong’
All situations inherently have no meaning. Whether or not something is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ is something wholly decided by us.
All manifestations are just a mirror of something in our energy, and if we are willing to look for the message, we can gain all sorts of helpful insights into what is happening in our inner world, insights that help us move along the path, help us shed energy that is not serving us, help us get greater clarity on what we want to do, be and have.
Sure, we are human and we are not going to like certain things, they will trigger a negative reaction. It’s all good. Let yourself have it, and then suck it up and move on as best you can.
If you are going to throw a temper tantrum every time the Universe doesn’t give you what you want, and lament how ‘unfair’ it is you are not manifesting what you want even though you are ‘trying’ so hard, this journey is going to be a lot bumpier than it needs to be.
The Universe isn’t going to dangle the perfect manifestation in front of you and then snatch it away because you haven’t quite ‘earned’ it yet or because it is messing with you for its own amusement.
It is crucial to remember the law of attraction is not a ‘tool’ you can use to manipulate your reality either. If something doesn’t go like your mind wants it to go, or you don’t get something specific your mind wants, again, nothing went ‘wrong.’ Your power is not in trying to craft your life to the exact specifications of your mind, it is in managing your vibration.
Manifesting is not something that happens on the level of action, so you can’t ‘mess it up’, you can’t do anything ‘wrong.’
And this seems like a good place to explain why ‘inspired’ actions may not always yield the ‘positive’ result our mind is expecting, and again, why this isn’t a ‘bad’ thing.
Remember what I said earlier about feeling drawn to things that have something to teach us, that will give an opportunity to show us something in our energy that is important to see?
This applies to inspired action–the action allowed a course of events to unfold that were significant for you energetically, and AGAIN, were just showing you something that was very helpful for you to see.
So What’s The Message?
Manifestations always carry very personal messages just for us. As for what a manifestation may mean, that is only something you can figure out for yourself.
There is no one-size-fits all meaning to why your boyfriend cheated, why you didn’t get that job, why that guy didn’t ask you out, why you didn’t land that big client or why you lost that large sum of money, that applies across the board, to everyone.
It would be great if this was how it worked but alas it isn’t.
So you have to be willing to dive in and see what’s going on. How did the manifestation make you feel? What beliefs is it mirroring back to you? What ‘positive’ belief is it challenging? How did it make you feel about yourself? Is it bringing to mind any other experiences that feel just like this?
As for that last part, the related experiences may on the surface seem completely unrelated, but energetically, there is a common thread, or else it would not have come into your mind.
It is important when doing this, that you receive the insights without judgment, that you don’t shut anything down because you think you ‘shouldn’t’ still believe a certain belief given everything you know now, or that you ‘shouldn’t’ feel a certain way because it’s not ‘spiritual’, it’s ‘negative’, or whatever.
Changing our energy in any meaningful way requires us to always be very honest in our assessments of what is happening now in our vibration. Denial has served you very well in the past in a variety of ways, but it won’t do any good on the journey of conscious creation.
If you can’t immediately glean the meaning of a manifestation, don’t freak out about it. It will come to you.
Don’t Go Crazy With This
I can’t stress this enough. Yes, in order to more ‘successfully’ manifest, we must have a more intimate knowledge of what is going on in our energy.
We have to pay more attention to what we are manifesting to gauge where our vibration is at, where we may need to tweak things. We can mine all sorts of insights and helpful information from doing a bit of analysis on what is showing up in our life.
But this doesn’t mean doing a post-mortem on everything that shows up in our life. It doesn’t mean trying to analyze every manifestation to death to figure out what went ‘wrong’ so we can ensure we do things ‘right’ the next time or whatever. The root of this tendency is our extremely controlling nature.
Intuitively, you know when to examine a manifestation more deeply. You’ll get that nudge to look deeper. When you have a really strong reaction to something, that’s a sign to look deeper. When you seem to be really struggling in a certain area of life, it is usually a good idea to pay closer attention to the related manifestations, but again, don’t go crazy.
Keep the bigger picture in mind, knowing you are always moving towards something better–though it might not be what your mind wants, it might look really different than you are picturing or it might morph over time–and when things don’t go your way, just shake it off.
If that guy didn’t call, no biggie. More where he came from. If that person decided not to become a client, more where she came from. If you didn’t get that job, plenty more out there. This detachment is extremely powerful.
So that’s that, hope you enjoyed it.
Your Turn
What did you think of the post? Anything resonate in particular? Any of your own tips for decoding manifestations?

Hi Kelli,
again, exactly what I needed to read 😀
Magda
Hi Magda
Thanks for your comment and glad the information was timely for you!
This post is very on point. Recently I manifested a situation that shed light on all the fear I carry around in my vibration. Since I’ve been going through a purging process, I recognized it for what it was. Yes it does feel very intense and it seems very difficult to stay detached during such a “turmoil”.
I kept reminding myself that nothing was really wrong and that nothing “bad” was happening, all while allowing myself to feel the fear 100% without getting pulled into it, or without taking it personal. In other words the only thing I did in this process was recognize the situation for what it really was and allow myself to be an open space through which I felt the emotion I needed to release and let it go.
Today the manifestation took care of itself. And as soon as it became resolved (quite easily I might add), I didn’t feel any rushing feelings of happiness because it all felt like the next natural step, like it was supposed to happen that way because it all really is okay, always.
I hope the readers find this encouraging.
It may feel like it isn’t guys, but it really is all okay.
Much love! ❤️
Hi Lin
Thanks for your comment and sharing your experience and insights. Like you have experienced, you can allow your feelings while at the same time remaining aware of perspectives and beliefs that serve you better, which helps soften the blow a bit.I love what you said about feeling like it was the next step–that is kind of how we should always feel about our manifestations but that can take some time depending on the situation. I know so many people will be helped by this comment.
Kelli,
I just wanted to say thank you for the time you and Ryan devote to help us live happier lives.
Hi Penny
Thank you so much for your kind words. I am so glad you find our contribution helpful!
Spot on Kelli. Thank you for another great insight. You are very right about our manifestations carrying personal message just for us. No matter what we want which is little challenging for us will not have any short cuts. It will take its time and take us on the colourful journey. It will open different doors of our own mind and make us different from what we were before. But what I am experiencing is it’s making me more and more peaceful. More and more learning and coming little closer to my true self. The whole manifestation process helped me to drop the garbage I been carrying for years. It helped me to make space for new and good things. I am still me but now my acceptance towards everything has gone much better. And best is I got never ending hopes.
And I too believe that it’s good that few things don’t work out cause then you look for something else and over the period of time it proves the best thing ever happened to you. Thank you ?.
Hi Rhea
I always love reading your comments. You share such wonderful insights and I know anyone reading them is benefitting in some way. You have such a wonderful perspective on what this journey of being more conscious in manifesting our experience can do for us, how it can serve us, and what it is really all about. It is that inner transformation that truly gives us what we seek and all the manifestations are just nice bonuses and enhance that energy–they are not the end all be all, nor are they the solution. Thank you for your contribution.
thank you Kelli…i usually feel like you are talking right to me, this post even more so.
Hi Joleen
Thanks so much for your comment. I believe that this blog is a co-creation. The inspiration to cover a certain topic at a certain time, etc…is definitely me plugging into something that is connecting all of us.
Awesome insights as always, Kelli. And I also loved the other comments here. Gaining more peace is such a wonderful gift. I’m finding more and more manifestations centering around improving my feelings concerning money – my personal Everest. But the Universe keeps showing me new and unthought of ways to alter my viewpoint. Thanks so much for this blog!
Hi Jeannie
Thanks so much for your comment. One thing I would say about your money issue is not to look at it like a ‘money’ problem. It is just something more ‘general’ being reflected in the area of your finances. This perspective can be helpful in changing our energy because it feels less like some major block in one specific area that we won’t ever be able to ‘fix.’
I try to think like this I really do especially romantically…but then the anger and disappointment and jealousy and bitterness keep coming up and I keep feeling rejected…believing I’m moving towards something better is a lot harder in this state. I logically know I’m supposed to learn from it, and I can even see and assimilate the lesson, but I still feel angry and rejected and very disappointed. I know where I went wrong and what I should do better but I’m still pissed I didn’t get what I want…and I feel frustrated with myself, the universe, everything at being pissed
Hi Ella
It’s okay that you feel those feelings. There is nothing wrong with them. The trick is feeling them in the context of exploring why you feel that way and knowing you are making some ‘space’ for more positive emotion by not suppressing the more unpleasant energies we would rather not deal with, not simply feeling badly, thinking everything sucks and you can’t do anything about it. When we can remember this distinction, we realize feeling these sorts of things really doesn’t impede the energetic shifts that are required of us. You sound very angry and anger can actually bring us to a much better space energetically when we really allow it without any sort of judgment–it usually spurs us into positive action and other beneficial changes.
Hi Kelli,
Thank you for another great post! It’s very helpful, as usual. I just have one question. I feel like it’s much easier to analyze/understand the manifestation when SOMETHING happens. It’s not so easy when the manifestation is that NOTHING happens. When the money (or any evidence of it) doesn’t come it’s much harder to understand what the manifestation is and what it’s telling me. How does one discern what the problem is when nothing is happening?
Hey Donna
What a great question. It does seem different doesn’t it? But actually the process wouldn’t be that different as no matter what is happening or not happening, we are always examining ourselves–how we feel, what is being triggered, what beliefs are being solidified or challenged, etc… So in the case of money, I would ask someone how their financial situation makes them feel specifically? What meaning are you assigning to your financial situation? What do you think it says about you as a person? What beliefs do you have in regards to your specific means of earning income? For example, if someone had an online business and had a belief they can’t make money unless they have a big email list, they would probably have a hard time letting money in with their ‘small’ list because there is a belief that isn’t possible.
I wondering what people tend to do while waiting on a manifestation. I’m manifesting a job, a house and a husband. I’m confident I have those things, but the practicality of reality steps in.
I’ll take my job for example. My current job is not what I’m looking for. While there are a few decent things about it, at the end of the day I’d rather be somewhere else. I’ve visualized, done focus wheels, etc…and I’m about as positive about the situation as I’m going to get. I’m currently manifesting my dream job at a company I can’t wait to work for, but am not sure what I should be doing with my time in the interim. I know that things can either manifest instantly, or it can take some time to get in alignment and there is no sure bet of when something will show up. Do I find another job in the interim? While I’m sure my dream job will be in my physical reality at some point, I also want to be in a job situation that is better than it currently is.
I kind of think of it like this….if you’re homeless and you’re starving, you put in a request to universe for an abundant, steady stream of food. You thank the universe and you let go of the outcome. If by the next day that abundant source hasn’t manifested, you still need to scrounge for food, right?
How much are we supposed to help ourselves, or work to better our situation between the time the intention is made and it manifests in reality? Does that type of thing cancel out what you’re trying to manifest?
Hi Nikki
As far as the job situation, you can certainly get a new job if your current job is not really somewhere you are happy–nothing is permanent and it could be a next step on the path to the job you truly want. Or you can adopt a perspective on your current job that makes it more ‘tolerable’ for you knowing it is not permanent and you wait for something else to show up.
The only thing I wouldn’t recommend is staying in a situation you hate hoping the Universe will come in and ‘fix’ your life without you participating in any way–that is what people often take the whole ‘action doesn’t create’ thing to mean and that is not really what is being suggested.
There are no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ actions to take and you can’t mess anything up. The LOA is not a tool to be used as some sort of ‘substitute’ for action. Sometimes actions play a role in our manifestations and sometimes not. There is nothing you absolutely ‘must’ do but if you feel inspired to take certain actions that you think will be beneficial, then it is a good idea to take them and see what shows up as a result–the key is remaining detached from any particular outcome.
We have a belief system where taking action is pretty deeply ingrained and it can be awhile before we learn to let go of the actions that really aren’t necessary or are just getting in the way because we are trying to control things. Because of this belief, action can be a good way to raise our vibe because it helps create an expectation we will get what we want–the key is doing our best to take those actions from a good-feeling space not one of trying to force, control or manipulate.
Hi Kelli,
So I’ve been feeling really good and seeing lots of small positive signs about my intention. My belief was increasing.
But a bigger manifestation has happened that didn’t feel good. It wasn’t ‘what I wanted’.
It’s left me confused. I was so sure about this particular intention before, but now I’m questioning again if I should keep with it. An ‘is the universe telling me no’ feeling.
You mentioned these manifestations can challenge positive beliefs – why? Is it like a test?
And do you just carry on regardless, try and get back to how you felt before?
Thank you.
Hi Martina
All manifestations are just a mirror and if we take some time to see what is being shown, we will get a sense of why we may have manifested it. No situations is inherently ‘good’ or ‘bad’ our mind just judges them so–so ask yourself why didn’t it feel good? When we work on really changing our energy in any meaningful way we may often manifest things like this to show us where we still need to ‘clean things up.’ Without the manifestations, we really wouldn’t know the energy is there and so strong. You are not really being ‘tested’ by any outside force, just being shown what still needs some attention.
Thank you so much Kelli, I always find what I need on your blog.
