Podcast #21: Law of Attraction: It’s About What You’re Being, Not What You’re Doing

One of the big misunderstandings about the law of attraction is this idea that we have to ‘do’ something to ‘make it work.’ And man- oh- man, how that messes with our manifesting. Our orientation towards action complicates being in alignment, and we get in our own way quite a bit.

There can be a bit of a learning curve and it’s understandable because we are being encouraged to move through the world in a way that is very different from how we have been living most of our lives.

Today’s podcast will shed some light on the importance of ‘being’ rather than ‘doing.’ I hope you enjoy it.

Also, don’t forget to register for the first call in the Manifesting like a Mofo Teleclass Series here. The first call will be taking place on October 18th 3PM EST, but everyone who signs up will receive a recording so no worries if you can’t make it live.

And one more thing…check out my latest post on the Huffington Post about manifesting when you’re not sure what you want…that can actually be a huge advantage. If you’re feeling a bit attached to something, you can find some helpful nuggets in this post so something for everyone…

  1. Another great podcast, thank you! Going to try to apply it today. I get how this concept works with larger goals, like career or life aspirations, but I get tripped up with smaller problems. Today, for example, I discovered that my PayPal account isn’t working. I see all over the Internet that thousands of people are having the same issue with the same error messages, but PP is kind of denying it and not dealing with it. Some people are having luck calling PP and getting it resolved individually over the phone, so I thought I’d try that. PP is pretty much the only way I get paid, so it’s not like I can just wait a week or two and hope the problem resolves. Anyway, I go to call PP, and my mobile service isn’t working (of course, right? lol). So now, I have to figure out how to get my mobile working, so I can call PP and fix my account there. I’m already bracing myself based on previous problems with PP and how difficult they are to deal with. I live in a foreign country, so I can’t just go to my neighbor’s house and call them or get my money another way.

So… as difficult as it is for me to do this, I think I’m going to do laundry, tidy my house, take a walk on the beach and forget about it for a day. My energy isn’t right to deal with this, and while I do sort of need a certain outcome in this situation, I need to come at it from a relaxed and positive frame of mind. I have enough cash to get through the next week or so, and one more day isn’t going to make or break me.

When I first thought about changing my energy around this problem, you were the first person I thought of, and wouldn’t you know it, your podcast was just what I needed to hear! Thanks and gotta sign up for your teleclass!

    1. Hey Patricia
Thanks for your comment. I know what you mean about those smaller things cropping up and not knowing how to deal with them. I think your approach is a really good one. As you have probably seen, when we are upset about something, trying to fix the issue from that space tends not to work so well…such s the phone not working and things like that. I am sure whatever happens, you will find a way to deal with it. Good luck!

    1. Hi Peter
Thanks for your comment and I am so glad you enjoyed it. I have never heard that saying before but I love it!

  2. Hi Kelli

    Great podcast!

The standouts for me were these points:

‘The path has to feel good’

‘If you are acting from resistance rather than inspiration, it would be better to not do anything’

When I was chasing money and NOT in any way inspired, the money never came. So I would have been been better off just doing nothing until such time that I WAS inspired. Now, if I want to promote or do something in my business, I don’t care how much money I MAY be able to make – if I’m not coming from inspiration I avoid it like the plague.

Thanks for your wise words, Kelli

    1. Hi Kim
Thanks so much for your comment and I am so glad you enjoyed it. Money is a great teacher isn’t it? When we can learn how to manifest that more easily, everything else seems like a breeze. It is great you have made that realization and stick to your guns with that…that can be hard when it comes to finances.

  3. Having eavesdropped on this one I assure you that it’s relevant to all of our lives now. Really. This podcast vibes with me because I am really big these days on doing less to care less about results. Sure it’s a 180 from what I did for 7 years online but it feels so much better to be in love with doing for the sake of having no purpose, and to be vibing with helping folks for the sake of……nothing, really….and to do what I’m doing from a being rather than conditional space.

I feel this way a bit more each day, then I may pull back here and there. That’s OK too because I’m human, and I feel anybody listening to this podcast should forgive themselves quickly as well. I still want to do because I’m feeling the conditional bit but I’ve uncovered the secret weapon to realizing when I’m doing to do instead of being and detaching.

    Breathe deeply. Exhale deeply.

Breathing and exhaling deeply brings you back to the moment. In this space you can watch all the conditional stuff which mucks up manifesting or which pulls you away from who you really are. If you’re willing to just be with the feelings, then you can take the second step to embracing your conditional doings, and that is, to sit still and to relax your body.

As our friend Zac says you cannot resist and relax at the same time. I find myself relaxing more as I post comments or write posts or as I walk the streets of Nicaragua with you, chilling and observing my tension, my resistance and my stepping away and then towards who I really am. It’s a fun journey and maddening journey too because I get to see when I am present, full of love and grateful for the moment, then I get to see when I am doing things from a tense, conditional-dependent space, and of course I can shift accordingly.

Fab podcast as always. Keep rocking it out.

    1. Hi Ryan
Thanks for sharing your experience and your words of wisdom. The part about forgiving yourself really struck a chord because that is so incredibly important–we are way to hard on ourselves. Breathing is a great tool for remaining presence and cultivating a state of non-resistance.
