Law of Attraction: Clearing Up Some of Your ‘Action Anxiety’ Part 1

If our reality is created by our vibration, which is comprised of our thoughts, beliefs and feelings, then what is the role of action? How much ‘work’ do we have to do to get what we want?

This is something that can really trip us up at times, and it can take a bit to work through it. It is one area that can really get our mind all in a tizzy.

We have been been brought up to believe success is borne of hard work, that really toiling and going through all sorts of unpleasantness, is what makes us deserving of the end result.

Taking action makes us feel like we are in control. Lots of people found success by working really, really hard and suffering for a long time, so we believe we are at least guaranteed some sort of result by taking the same path.

Doing less seems too easy, we don’t quite trust that modus operandi. We don’t quite trust it is how we feel that really determines our experience.

We feel torn sometimes about whether to act. We worry by not acting we may be sending a message that we actually don’t want what we want—don’t worry, the Universe has gotten the memo..it knows what you want better than you do. Which is why it is a great idea not to get too attached to certain outcomes and manifestations, but I digress.

So, today I am going to talk about a bit about this ‘action anxiety’ and hopefully you’ll get some helpful nuggets that clear things up for you, and give you some clarity in making yourself a better match for your desired manifestations.

Decisions and Changes May Need to Be Made but They Don’t Need to Be Made NOW

In many instances, manifesting what you want, and improving your life, will involve making some decisions; changes will need to be made.

You will need to extract yourself from situations, make some tweaks ,and what have you, to remove certain energies from your life that are causing you strife ,and cultivate the ones that will align you with what you want.

And because we are impatient and because the old way of operating is very action-oriented, we may feel like we need to make these decisions and changes RIGHT NOW. If we don’t, how is anything supposed to get better?

But, if you remember your world is created from the inside out, and that whatever was predominant in your inner world is what manifested anything you are not loving right now, you’ll realize that is where you want to start for optimal results.

Sure, taking certain actions right now may help things a bit, but in many cases, any benefit is temporary. Nothing has really shifted and you won’t get the results for which you were hoping.

For example, you may impulsively move, thinking the change of location is the key, and you may feel better for a bit. But then you realize it really didn’t do much to change your thoughts, feelings and beliefs. You may have removed yourself from certain problematic elements, but the issues are still there, and just may be manifesting in different ways. You still basically feel the same.

To start seeing changes in your experience and how you feel, you don’t necessarily need to DO anything right now. Again, in most cases, it will be better to put a pin in any potential outside changes to your experience, and work on making the internal shifts first.

You may have come to the realization that ending your marriage may be the best move, but it doesn’t mean you have to start looking for a divorce lawyer tomorrow.

You may have come to the realization you want to take your career in a different direction, but it doesn’t mean you have to march into your boss’s office and quit tomorrow.

You may have come to the realization you want to re brand your online business and take it in a different direction, but it doesn’t mean you need to start redesigning your whole website tomorrow.

You want to work on getting some momentum behind the energy that you want, and when you have some banked, you will get a clearer idea of what actions to take and when, and the results will be better.

You will become a better match for the inspirations, ideas, opportunities and what have you, that will make traveling the path to what you want easier and less bumpy.

If you really don’t shift the energy, you can’t really get the results you want.

Now, this isn’t to say that some snap decisions of a larger nature can’t serve you well, even if things don’t fall into place right away.

We are always moving towards what we want and whatever yuck gets brought to the surface, and unwanted manifestations result from the decision, are just popping up to help us improve our vibration and clean up what is holding us back.

You can’t really do anything ‘wrong.’ But, if certain decisions and changes aren’t really sitting well and you really don’t feel ready for them, or you are not sure if that is exactly what you want to do, you are better off just going within to start.

A little bit of doubt, fear and what have you is normal, even when you are relatively confident you are making the right move in the moment, but if you are utterly confused, or feel sick to your stomach thinking about making a certain decision, that is not the type of energetic space from which you want to act.

Remember to feel better and to start seeing positive changes in your life does not require you completely rooting out everything you don’t like first.

Trust the answers and path will open up to you, and the next steps will be revealed. You just have to work on your energy first to become a match to them, so they can make their way in.

What Bothers You about Not Taking Action?

If you are struggling with this whole action thing, and you find yourself doing a bunch of stuff that doesn’t feel good to get the stuff you want, it is a good idea to examine what is driving this behavior.

What doesn’t quite sit right about our vibration being the central force in creating our reality and not the actions we are taking?

What fears come up when you think of ceding some ‘control’ over your reality in the form of not trying to ensure the desired result through lots of action?

Why do you think action is necessary? What specific actions do you think are necessary to getting what you want and why do you think they are necessary?

If you stopped taking certain actions, what sorts of problems do you think would arise, and how do you think it would get in the way of manifesting what you want?

What actions are you taking right now that really don’t feel good, and why do you think you have to keep taking them?

When we examine our discomfort with doing less, and letting things come to us more easily, and moving away from the paradigm of hard work and ‘no pain no gain’ we can see what feelings and beliefs may not be serving us and making it harder to let in what we we want.

Armed with this knowledge, you can work on shifting these feelings and beliefs. You will see what is getting in the way of developing trust—a necessary component of this ‘work.’

And, you can make some tweaks on the action end of things..which brings me to my next little nugget….

We Came Here to Do Stuff…You’ll Want to Take Action..Don’t Worry

Our mind can’t really buy into this premise that we don’t have to work hard to get what we want, that we don’t have to be constantly monitoring ‘the situation,’ troubleshooting, fixing things, taking steps to ensure we get what we want, etc…

This idea of not doing stuff makes Mr. Mind very uneasy. But, don’t worry. You’ll end up taking all sorts of actions. There are going to be things you will do to bring about certain manifestations.

If you are working on building a business, for example, you’ll be doing all sorts of stuff from designing a website to creating products .

I run this blog…can’t have a blog without blog posts so here I sit writing.

There are different things I do to promote my blog and build my audience, but they are things I enjoy doing. I have gotten lots of great results and it wasn’t from ‘busting my ass.’ There is a lot of leverage behind inspired action.

There is one blog I comment on frequently that I love and when I used to track my visitor stats, which I haven’t done for a really long time, I noticed I would sometimes get dozens of visitors in a day just from that one comment. A lot of my regular readers noted that is how they found my blog.

Not too shabby a result from something that took me a few minutes, something that I actually enjoyed doing.

Many people who engage in blog commenting to build their blog don’t really enjoy it, and they might have to comment on 15 blogs to get that same result because the energy behind the action is all screwed up. They are doing it because that is what other people told them they ‘have to’ do to get more traffic.

Perhaps my blog could grow more quickly if I adopted that ‘ass-busting’ paradigm..after all, even if it doesn’t feel good, massive amounts of action can yield results as has been the experience of many people.

But, I choose to do it the energetic way. I want to enjoy the journey as much as I can. And if I’m being totally honest, I can be a bit on the lazy side, and if I can get what I want by getting things right upstairs and not have to do as much…yes please.

My first writing job that provided me steady work for over two years, came courtesy of the urge to visit Backpage.com (like Craigslist for anyone who is unfamiliar), a site I had never visited before, and there was the job posting.

I had set an intention a couple of months back that I would like to start writing and getting paid for it. I started writing things for fun and submitting the work to sites like Hubpages and Ezinearticles.

I didn’t do any research on freelance writing. I wasn’t looking for jobs. I wasn’t doing much of anything to bring this to fruition and then one day, that nudge to visit the site and all of a sudden I was getting paid to write, just like I wanted.

I never busted my ass looking for writing work..all of my clients that came after that first one came from postings on just one site that I would check daily.

You also want to remember we came into this physical experience to do all sorts of stuff. We want to take actions, we want to participate in life.

You may find yourself taking tons of action at times, but when it is coming from an inspired place, it doesn’t feel hard or forced. You are lost in the moment and hours can pass and it feels like minutes.

The key is realizing it is how the actions are making us feel, to tune into what is motivating them.

We want to—as best we can at least—act from a space of trust and inspiration. We are taking the action because it feels good, not because we are trying to force a result or because we believe we can’t possibly get what we want if we don’t take this action.

We are not being motivated by fear, doubt or lack of trust. We are not doing it from a space of controlling, or ‘making shit happen.’

But, in order to experience more of those moments when you are acting from inspiration and trust, you have to be willing to pull back when you find yourself acting from a space filled with all those aforementioned icky energies.

When you are willing to step away from the pain, you will start to feel better, and maybe in a few hours or the next day, you will perform that same action from a totally different space, or you will be inspired to take a totally different action that feels a lot better.

If you really want ‘proof’ that there is a shit ton of leverage behind inspired actions, that so much of what we need to bring our manifestation into the physical can just come to us without us doing anything but feeling good about getting it, again, you have to be willing to pull the plug when you find yourself forcing, manipulating, and ‘powering through.’ +

There will be stuff you’ll do. There will be stuff you want to do. The key is getting more comfortable with the idea you don’t have to control everything, the idea you don’t have to do things that feel badly in some way.

In Closing…

Like anything law of attraction related, there can be a bit of a learning curve. There will be things we will get in theory but have a bit more trouble applying in our everyday lives. We won’t be ‘perfect’ at this whole manifesting thing right out the gate.

We will still do things that we know we don’t have to do, but just can’t help it. We don’t fully trust yet. The old conditioning is holding on tightly.

We are all working through that stuff in some way, and are at different points on the spectrum. The action thing is something that can crop up again and again no matter how ‘advanced’ we may be so don’t feel bad if you are struggling with this, either as a newbie or someone who has been at it for awhile.

Some people find they get more comfortable with doing less in one area of life but as soon as they start working on manifesting in another area, the struggle begins all over again.

It can be harder to nail down this action thing for stuff that is really important to us—we just want it so badly and it can be hard to not try and take control every step of the way.

Like I always like to remind you—make sure you exercise some compassion for yourself as you navigate this journey of basically completely shifting your view of reality, and remember you don’t need to be ‘perfect’ to manifest great things.

Your Turn…

What did you think of this post? Anything resonate with you in particular? What are your struggles on the action front? Have you had any experiences that support the idea of doing less or only working from an inspired space or that showed you force was not the way to go? Looking forward to your thoughts as always.

  1. Another wonderful post, Kelli
I can resonate with your decision point. Ya, you are absolutely right. Sometimes, we act so fast that we don’t invest our time in thinking about the thoughts. In this process, we create a messy situation from where we are not able to come out in a proper manner. As a result, we repent over it and curse ourselves. It is good to make changes. But, we need to implement things by analyzing things broadly.
Thanks for sharing. Lots of love

    1. Hi Yatin
Thanks so much. So glad you enjoyed it. It can be hard to resist that urge to act, and sometimes that is the answer but often, we are better off just working on our energy first and receiving some guidance about then next step rather than jumping right into external changes. Lots of love to you too!

  2. Thanks for the post Kellli. You are very right in that we don’t have to worry about what’s between ‘here’ and ‘there’. We just have to focus on what we want in a positive way and we will get ‘there’ eventually, in a gentle way, without doing anything difficult. But it definitely is hard to not get hung up on ‘how’ we want it and forcing things to get there.
When I get up in the morning, I remind myself that day to “trust the universe”, meaning to remember that the universe knows what I want better than I do and not to worry about what i have to do – it will come. I still worry a bit out of habit about how I am going to do something, but now I remind myself that I don’t have to figure it out right now, just feel good.
For example I am temping at the moment. I had about two days left in my current job and nothing lined up in spite of sending out tons of applications (out of fear). I reminded myself that I only needed ONE job – the RIGHT job – to come to me, so I meditated on that, on a great job in a great location that was well paid. The second I finished my visualisation session I checked my emails and there was an email from an agency who think I am perfect for a really good, well paid job in a couple of weeks. I just thought WOW how cool was that.
Then yesterday on my last day on the job, my team showed me how much they appreciated and recommended me to another department as a temp. it was the last thing I was expecting.
All this without not doing too much hard work, just aligning my energy!
I just wanted to share my experiences to show people how it works. I remember a year ago getting all discouraged when I first started working on feeling good. Things actually got worse! (or so I thought). I was REALLY bummed and angry then. But I kept up the visualising every single day and now I can see how things had to get worse to get me where i wanted to go. We had to move to a smaller house because our financial situation got really bad , but now I find myself loving where we live. If our financial situation hadn’t gotten so bad, I would never have gone back to work but now that I have, I am loving it so much so it adds to my good feelings. Trust the universe!!! I knows better than you do.

    1. Hey Bunny
Congratulations on all of those awesome manifestations. You are definitely aligning yourself quite nicely in the jobs department and it is exciting to see where it all takes you. It looks like you are just focusing on each step at a time and that is great. I love how you give yourself that reminder every day. It seems simple, but it can be a powerful tool in keeping our energy more stable throughout the day. It is easy to get caught up in the day to day stuff of life and forget these life-changing truths. Thanks for sharing those examples..I am sure anyone reading them will get a nice boost of trust and confidence seeing the great things you manifested.

  3. Hi Kelli
I too would like to thank you for the advice. As one who wants everything to happen immediately – though thank goodness it does not, or I would really be in a bind. I left a dead end job two years ago, just up and quit and then struggled to find work again. It may have been a bit drastic, but now realize that it was exactly what was needed. Time out to work on my myself and my art. (This was part of my visualization). Working full time destroyed all creativity. Now it is flowing again and I am working on a vision for a future doing what I love. Your advice is just what I need as it reminds me to be mindful of what passes through “the mind. “

    1. Hey Margot
Thanks so much for your comment and I am so glad you liked the post. While it is best to take action when we are more aligned with what we want, sometimes we just feel the need to act immediately. It isn’t ‘wrong’ to do so, but the road can be a bit bumpier. But no matter what, we can always get what we want so it’s all good. That was brave of you to make that choice and follow your inner knowing. Good luck with your journey and please keep me posted on all your awesome manifestations!
