Law of Attraction: Is Feeling ‘Good’ All There Really Is To It?

Hi, Kelli! What’s your opinion of Abraham Teachings on the topic “feeling good” ? I always think and feel there’s more to manifesting than just feeling good. I see everyday people laughing and having fun, however it seems like they have a “limit”of manifesting good things. So, how do you increase your degree of mainfesting?

The short answer is yes…that really is it at the core because our energy is what creates our reality. We manifest what we feel predominantly, and if we feel love, trust, joy, peace, contentment and all those other warm fuzzies, we have no choice but to manifest experiences that mirror back those feelings to us.

What we really want at the end of the day is to feel good; we want all the things we want because we believe having them will provide these much sought after feelings.

No matter what it is we want, the feelings we think they will give us all pretty much boil down to the catch-all feeling of ‘happiness.’ We feel happy and we will manifest things that match that energy.

But the long answer is a bit more ‘complex’ if you will, not because manifesting is complex, but because us humans are.

I love this question because it allows me to dive into one of my favorite topics regarding the law of attraction: the differences, sometimes vast, between the theory and reality of manifesting.

We’re Bringing a Lot of ‘Stuff’ To the Table

The ‘theory’ of manifesting doesn’t really take into account the degree of ‘kinkiness’ most of us tend to have in our energy by time a teaching like the law of attraction enters our orbit.

There is recognition of our ‘limiting’ beliefs for sure, and we are told we must release them, and believe anything is possible, the Universe has our back and we are powerful creators who can shape the course of our lives by way of managing our vibration. All 1,000 percent true.

Intuitively something feels right about this; intellectually we may understand this way of thinking may have some validity, especially if we familiarize ourselves with the various theories of quantum physics that lend credence to the law of attraction actually being a real ‘thing.’

But as for actually buying into these beliefs with all our heart, when we may have little to no evidence of their truth in our own lives, when we have been believing the exact opposite beliefs for perhaps decades…well, that’s a tall order.

We have amassed lots of ‘proof’ our negative beliefs are true since our mind doesn’t understand the energy came first then the manifestation. It looks at what has happened and uses that to draw conclusions about what is true and not true, how the world works, and that of which we are and aren’t capable. It’s doing things completely backwards.

We overcomplicate changing our belief system to a degree that is almost comical, when all it really comes down to is choosing not to believe things that feel badly to us anymore, and that willingness opens the door to manifestations that serve the dual purpose of showing us the validity of the better-feeling beliefs, which in turn, automatically refutes the truth of the negative beliefs we want to release.

And another major issue belief-wise is want to believe the law of attraction is real, and there is hope, but if we are honest, we just aren’t sure. And obviously we can’t reap the benefit of all these awesome beliefs if we don’t actually think they are true. It doesn’t matter how much you want to believe in the law of attraction, it only matters how much you actually do.

So to just take this huge leap into this whole new way of being, thinking, feeling and believing, adopting a seemingly radical view of ourselves and how the world works overnight, probably won’t happen, and that’s okay.

We may make smaller shifts at first, but they’re enough to get us moving in the right direction.

Feeling ‘Good’ May Be a Stretch

While there may be some of you out there whose lives were going along swimmingly already, and you are using this teaching to maximize the awesomeness of the human experience, just manifesting for shits and giggles, most of us are drawn to this teaching because we are unhappy, we feel lack in a particular area, or often many areas.

Some of us turn to this teaching when the shit has really hit the fan, and we’re desperately seeking a particular change; there is a circumstance that is really, really challenging us, like a longstanding crappy relationship with money,or a serious health problem; and the fear, anger or other negative emotions are constant companions threatening to overwhelm us.

And we happen upon the law of attraction, and we are told that we need to feel ‘good’ right here, right now, no matter what your circumstances may be. They are just a reflection of energy, and as long as you change the energy, the circumstances will change. Easy, peasy. That is all there is to it.

And this is all true, through and through, without a doubt. We have no choice but to change our energy in the present moment if we want to manifest something different moving forward. If we keep focusing on ‘what is’ and stewing in that energy, we can only manifest more of it. That’s how the law of attraction works.

But if our circumstances have been the source of our unhappiness for months, years, our whole lives even, to just let that all go, and feel good no matter what, to just drop the deeply ingrained habit of living outside in, and letting our feelings be determined by what is happening in our lives, is certainly possible, but unlikely.

Theory doesn’t take into account the incredible amount of momentum we have behind our negative thoughts, feelings and beliefs; it doesn’t take into account how second nature our negativity is.

It is not just a switch we flip; again, totally possible, but if it were that easy, we would have abandoned these bad-feeling beliefs and feelings long ago. But mind you, while it might not be super-easy to do this, it isn’t as hard as we make it out to be either. Not by a long shot.

It is important to recognize that transitioning to feeling positive emotion more predominantly, without having a ‘reason’ to justify feeling this way, can be more of a process.

Part of that process often involves letting yourself feel the negative feelings you feel now so they don’t have so much power anymore, so they aren’t the force driving your work with this teaching–trying to manifest from a space of not liking where we are now is a much harder road.

But, don’t take this as permission to keep wallowing in your negativity, and blaming your current experience for your feelings; you can’t insist on holding onto your crappy beliefs, using your experience up until now as justification for them. We tend to do this quite a bit, and we aren’t often aware of it.

And sometimes we are fully aware we are doing this, and well, good luck manifesting a different reality if that is how you are going to roll.

It is important to remember that any shift in your feeling state can open up new possibilities, and you don’t necessarily need to make the leap to unbridled joy every waking moment. I imagine for most of you, that vibration may seem light years from where you are now. ‘Good’ might be a stretch and you might need to just start with ‘better.’

Make no mistake though…that crazy-high vibe already exists within you; there is no need to build it from scratch. But there is probably a lot of layers of ‘ick’ that need to be peeled away, and that tends to happen gradually. But gradually doesn’t automatically mean slowly, however.

So you are not being tasked with making these huge strides in your emotional state, but you do have to be willing to allow yourself to feel better independent of what is happening in your life; you do have to be willing to look past ‘what is’ to what you prefer, and make a conscious effort to activate the energy that will allow you to receive the latter.

You have to be willing to embrace an idea to which your mind is very resistant–the current circumstances of your life are not why you are unhappy; you are unhappy because of the story it created about them, the meaning it has assigned them.

Drop the story, drop the meaning, and you would be amazed at how much better you can start feeling instantly, even if not one damn thing in your life has changed yet.

You have to be willing to make a real, conscious effort to do all you can to enjoy your life now, no longer insisting you can’t feel better in any real way unless you get the money, the husband, the new job, the clients, or whatever else your mind insists is a necessary precursor to happiness.

We really do get to choose how we feel; we get to choose what we believe. We get to decide if our past will make us bitter, angry, resentful, depressed, or hopeless about the future, or if we can reframe the experiences and see how they may have benefitted us, what we can learn from them. I know this can be an annoying perspective to our ego/mind, but that doesn’t make it any less true.

An Important Balance We Must Strike

Again, in the theory of manifesting, we set some intentions, and know the Universe got the memo. We are detached from how it is going to happen; we know it will come and we can just enjoy life now, cocooned in all these wonderful feelings that come with trust, faith, and recognizing our power and the true nature of reality.

It’s all good; we’re all good. No obsessing; no worrying; no getting in our own way by trying to manipulate circumstances, taking actions from a misaligned space, messing up our vibe by making decisions from a space of fear.

We don’t just intellectually understand the principles, they are actually a guiding force in our life; we are actually living them.

But in reality, this total ‘set it and forget it’ approach is not so easy. We’re not feeling ‘good.’ We don’t fully believe; we aren’t living from this space.

We are not aligned with these things or we would have them already. We are going to think about what we want a lot, and we have to pay attention to the energy we are throwing out there when doing so.

We have lots of practice thinking about these things in a ‘negative’ way–thinking these things can’t happen for us, thinking all these outside factors, like other people can get in the way or must be in place for the thing to happen, past failures, etc…

We worry a lot about ‘how’ the thing will happen, and if we can’t figure it out, that doesn’t sit well with us.

So, if all this is going on, we have to address it; we can’t keep sending out this contradictory energy with such frequency–it will easily drown out any fledgling positivity you may be successfully activating.

This is where tools come in, like affirmations and vision boards; this is where some sort of ‘ritual’ can serve you well. These things help activate energies that may have been largely absent in your life, energies that you may not be able to evoke so easily given the current circumstances.

Remember they have no power in and of themselves, but for most of us, they will play a pivotal role in making these energetic shifts since they help change our energy. These tools facilitate conscious engagement with your energy, which will be very important because we have largely been operating on auto-pilot, being driven by really shitty programming.

We don’t really trust it can be so easy as to just set the intention and that is enough. We think there must be ‘work’ we need to do, and if we aren’t doing ‘enough’ it might not happen. So, again, using the tools, having some sort of ‘ritual’ can be helpful because it makes you think you are ‘doing’ something and you can relax a bit.

When we find ourselves going off into negative thought patterns, and are feeling badly, we usually need to do something to snap us out of it, to get ourselves back on track. Mind you, this doesn’t mean monitoring your energy every waking moment. But there has to be an awareness of how you are feeling overall.

But, with all that being said, we need to be careful not to go overboard with all the energetic ‘work.’ More is not necessarily better. Doing too much usually works against us because it can make us focus too much on lack and that the ‘thing’ is missing. It often creates a lot of anxiety.

When we get too caught up with the tools and other forms of ‘doing’, we lose sight of the fact that manifesting is not an action, it is not something that happens on the level of ‘doing.’ We get so caught up with the tools and techniuqes and we totally lose sight of whether our energy is actually changing.

You can do your energetic ‘work,’ you can set your intentions, you can want what you want, but you also need to just go out and live your life, finding enjoyment now in whatever ways you can. Don’t get consumed by your manifestations; stop making them so ‘precious.’ I know this might not seem possible, but it is. It really, really is. It just comes down to making a choice.

I talk about general vibrational management a lot because it is probably the most beneficial ‘tool’ yet the one we employ the least. This basically boils down to doing whatever you can to feel better overall, in any shape or form.

It is not specific to any one particular manifestation. This is where you can make great strides in the ‘feel good’ department, and reap all the benefits it brings.

Remember what I said earlier–the core feelings that lie at the heart of any desired manifestation are all pretty much the same.

It doesn’t involve any ‘official’ personal development/energetic ‘tools’ like affirmations, tapping, scripting, visualizing, vision boards, balancing your chakras, dialoguing with your inner child, chanting, crystals, etc…

It is simple things, things that at least on the surface, wouldn’t seem to make a difference in whether you’ll manifest more money or a boyfriend, but can make a huge difference because of how they will benefit your overall sense of well-being and happiness, your overall energy.

Things like taking good care of your body, making time for your hobbies, prioritizing stress management, setting healthy boundaries with people, making more time for yourself, giving yourself permission to do things you enjoy, scaling back on commitments, saying no without guilt, spending more time with friends and family, dropping the pain in the ass clients, volunteering, spending more time in nature (which has an awesome vibration),watching funny movies and TV shows, watching the news less, spending less time on social media, finally taking that vacation.

How you feel overall colors how you feel about specific areas of your life.

Think about when you are having a bad day, and how that influences how you feel about your single status, your body, your job, your finances or a problem you may currently be dealing with. Everything sucks, nothing is working out. You’re going to die alone. You’ll never get out of debt. You’ll be stuck at this dead end job forever.

Then you wake up the next day after a good night’s sleep and feel so much better. You see everything through a whole different lens. Even though nothing has changed in any of these areas, and your life is exactly the same as it was 24 hours ago you don’t feel so badly; you feel optimistic and hopeful. You know things will be okay, will work out somehow.

Any shift in your overall energy will benefit you tremendously in all areas of your life.

About Other People

I also wanted to address the part of the question where the person observed others’ seeming limited ability to manifest even though they seem to be having fun, feeling good, etc…

First off, do your best to not pay attention to other people–it is common to develop quite the interest in other people’s lives and what they do and don’t manifest. This will not be helpful and you will draw all sorts of very faulty conclusions based on the limitations of not being able to know someone’s energy and what their manifestations mean to them(they are very, very personal, and often multi-layered),  and the even further limitation of viewing these things through the lens of your own perceptions, assumptions, etc…

There is no way you can ever know the whole story. Other people don’t matter as far as what is possible for you, so just focus on yourself.

Second, just because someone seems happy, doesn’t mean they are. Seeing someone have fun, or laughing at a given point in time in no way indicates their overall level of happiness.

People can generally be pretty happy and enjoy life, but not expect much out of it, and because they don’t expect much, they don’t get much, and they just do the best with what they have got.

A very religious person for example, might believe that God wants them to not have a lot of money because it will teach them some important lesson, so they accept that and make the best of their life as a poor person.

They can be generally happy but have tons of limiting beliefs when it comes to money, relationships, of what we humans are generally capable of creating.

Also, some people might be perfectly happy with their life the way it is, they don’t necessarily want more. We think we wouldn’t be happy if our life was like that, but that doesn’t mean everyone feels that way.

Again, just don’t go there…it won’t be helpful and will just hinder you.

  1. Thank you Kelli for answering my question! Your material resonates greatly with my worldview. Regarding the influence of simple things, I have the habit of meditating on my past really good memories (I think about them) and this process brings a lot of positive vibes saying “All is possible”. What’s your opinion of using past great memories to high-vibe now? You know, many people say don’t think about the past. But I dont see anything wrong when the memories bring me so much positive energy.

    1. Hi Radost
You are very welcome and thank you for asking a great question that I could turn into a blog post. It makes my job of writing them much easier! I think that anything that helps you get into a higher vibration is a good tool to use, so go for it. Looking to past successful manifestations is a great way to instill confidence we can in fact do it again, and like you have experienced, can activate an overall positive energy that likely contains a variety of more specific feelings that likely lie at the core of whatever it is you want now.

      1. Thanks Kelli! In terms of simple things which you stated in the post (spend time in nature, take care of yourself, etc.) – you say at least on the surface they won’t manifest boyfriend/money, but can help in your viewpoint about these areas. Is it true that actually if a large part of the resistance concerning concrete areas is “deleted”, on the deep level exactly these simple things will attract the boyfriend/money? (In a perfect world)

        1. Hi Radost
The better we can feel overall, the easier it is to align with what we want because the more we remain in a more positive frame of mind, the more we will manifest things that match that positive energy. The more we feel better in the moment, the less attached we may feel to specific manifestations to make us feel better, the less we are focusing on their absence, and that will always work to our benefit. Don’t overthink it too much…you seem to be entering the territory of trying to ‘figure out’ how it works as if there is a ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ way, etc…The real key is not so much how ‘good’ you feel but how much resistance you have around the things you want to manifest so that is where you want to start. When you think about what you want, how does it feel to you? Possible? Not possible? Icky? How much does not having it affect how you feel in the present moment? We want to get a handle on all of this so we can address it, and then any efforts we make to feel ‘good’ in whatever form that takes will ‘work’ much better. If we find ourselves having to ‘try’ a lot to feel better, or seem to be preoccupied with finding different ways to achieve this feeling, that means there is a lot of resistance and we obviously aren’t feeling very good. Something is getting in the way–ideally it doesn’t take any ‘effort.’ So we have to acknowledge the difficulty and see the root of it.

  2. It’s interesting that the question mention Abraham. I think there is a large intersection between people who like AH and people who like your content, but there does seem to be some difference of opinion about how to deal with negativity between your teachings and the messages received through Esther. Have you thought about doing a point about Abraham Hicks? I think it could help clarify a lot for people like me, who feel attracted to both of these approaches to LOA. Maybe the difference isn’t as large as I’m perceiving, or there’s a good reason for the difference, or something else.

    1. Hi Matt
There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to do this work, and you will find lots of different advice, tips, etc… Since it is all about changing our feelings and improving our emotional state, it comes down to whatever helps you accomplish that–it is a very individual thing. Personal development content is very ‘personal’ and I share my own insight based on what has worked for me, and other people may have a different take or a different approach. Don’t intellectualize it too much. I have read some of Abraham’s books, saw some videos on Youtube but am not as intimately familiar with their work as some other people may be so I actually wouldn’t really be able to provide any sort of in-depth analysis of the teaching or discuss similarities or differences. However, I am just a human and they are apparently non-physical beings with a very different level of consciousness and perspective so maybe you should go with them ;)Just really zero in on what resonates with you and works for you, and you can’t go wrong.

    2. Hi Matt and Kelli! I just want to add my experience here. I am a fan of AH and of Life Made to Order and my interpretation is that they both emphasize feeling good as much as possible being the quickest route to manifesting. This is what I am gathering from all the teachers I’ve been studying with on my human journey here on Earth. Feel good. Do whatever you possibly can to feel good now. Or better if that’s where you’re standing at the moment.

  3. What do you think about anxiety? Not necessarily about our manifestation in particular but if someone has general anxiety and someways are better than others. Does that impair our ability to create good things

    1. Hi Taylor
General anxiety, like any other vibration that falls more into the camp of the ‘negative’ can present an obstacle. The one thing I would say though is thinking about anxiety as more like a ‘compilation’ of lot of more specific feelings that maybe we haven’t pinpointed yet,and the end result is this feeling we tend to label as ‘anxiety.’

When we see anxiety as this general energy that seems to have no identifiable trigger, reason, etc, and we may just identify as an ‘anxious’ person…it can make us feel powerless about being able to do something about it. It might be uncomfortable but if you are willing to dive into it and see what more specific concerns, fears, feelings, beliefs, etc…may be present, it will give you a good starting point for how to best deal with what is happening internally.

The first thing is embracing the anxiety and not adding on the extra layer of feelings that come with resisting it, judging it, feeling anxious about feeling anxious.

  4. I’ve found several of your posts so very helpful. It is very easy to overthink things (especially for chronic overthinkers like me) and as you’ve mentioned (in one of the posts I read) get caught up in worrying when you have a negative thought that you’re screwing everything up and attracting negativity or doing it wrong.

What led me to your posts was googling about “What if something doesn’t happen by your set date,” because I had read some articles saying you should be as specific as possible like “I will have $100,000 by next year,” or “I will reconcile with my ex by next week.” So what if that comes and goes? I personally find that putting a time frame on it makes it harder to ignore the doubting voice. It’s easier for me to just believe something is coming to me than it is to believe it is coming by a certain time frame. Sometimes I wonder if I’m “trying” too hard and focusing too much energy on what I want, bu then sometimes I think “But it makes me feel good and like I am actively drawing it toward me.” It’s easy to over complicate but I try to just ask at any given time “Is it making me happy? Is it making me feel good feelings?” It’s all part of a lifelong journey of learning, that’s for sure!

    1. Hi Heath
Thanks so much for such a wonderful, insightful comment. I really enjoyed reading it and found myself agreeing wholeheartedly with everything you say. I am not a big fan of deadlines–I find I work best by minimizing specifics as much as possible. I sometimes may throw certain scenarios out there but then don’t give them much thought afterwards. It really comes down to what works best for each person–the key is your perspective, your tools, and what not, making you feel good, aligned and that you are moving closer to what you want, to changing your vibe. And it is a lifelong journey for sure with no true destination or end point so enjoying it is cliched but super, super true. Thanks again for your wonderful comment!
