Trying to apply LOA principles can give us a bit of anxiety, no? We come to understand much of our life hinges on our mindset, thoughts, beliefs and feelings; we realize how ‘off’ we have been up until now, and worry if we will ever be able to make the necessary shifts.
We ‘get’ a lot of what we read, but don’t quite have a full understanding; our logical thinking can get in the way. One area of concern is the idea of being ‘aligned’ with what we want. For the longest time, I kind of knew what LOA teachers were talking about, but I was still confused. What does it mean exactly to be a ‘match’ to something? Is the process of ‘aligning’ different for a car, job or relationship?
As some of you may have read in previous LOA posts, I note my work with LOA really went into overdrive a few years back when I suddenly lost my income and was flat broke. Since this time, and particularly in the last six months or so, many things have clicked.
What I knew primarily on an intellectual level has trickled down into my emotional center. I feel these truths; my experiences have confirmed without a doubt this stuff is real, and I have attracted so many things with such greater ease.
But, before you start feeling bummed you are not there yet, know I don’t always feel great. Like anyone else, I get attached to outcomes, I worry I won’t get what I want, etc… I still manifested lots of cool stuff without floating on a cloud 24/7—I may have slowed the manifestations somewhat, but they still came.
But, I digress…back to the issue at hand. If you were like me, and this idea of ‘alignment’ is throwing you off, here is my understanding of it. I hope what I write here will clear some things up.
If you have read my posts before, you will find I am mentioning some things I did previously, but it is because they are key pieces of the puzzle. And, as we all know, the only way to really let certain ideas take root is through repeated exposure. Without this repetition, the ‘old’ stuff can’t get shaken loose and replaced with the beliefs that serve you so much better.
Alignment Equals Feeling Good—That’s Really It
Don’t worry—it is not necessary to achieve some sort of specific vibration that matches the Volkswagen Beetle you have had your eye on, your dream man or higher paying clients. You want to align with whatever it is you want?
You just need to feel good….like right NOW and not a second later. Everything is happening NOW, so you can’t delay feeling good until you get what you want. Okay..post over. Just kidding.
You see boys and girls, what you are after, no matter what it is you want, is a feeling. All we want in life is to feel good, and we desire the things we do because we believe they will produce the particular warm, fuzzies we seek.
When we are able to cultivate the feelings we are after on a consistent basis, the trusty Universe will deliver us all the ‘stuff’ that will produce these same feelings.
You will feel inspired to do certain things, and when you do those things, you will move closer to what you want. You will engage less frequently in activities where you feel like you are trying to force things, or manipulate situations. You will get more by doing less.
How exactly does this happen? I really don’t know to be honest with you—I gave up trying to understand every nuance of this concept long ago. I did certain things, got certain results and now I just roll with it.
So, what can you do to feel good right now? What feelings lie behind your desires? What can you do in this moment to feel those things now?
How Much Do I Have to Think about What I Want?
The answer to this may surprise you, but pretty much never. You see, focusing on what we want is merely one of the many tools we can put in our attraction arsenal. It is not a necessary component.
Remember, so long as you can cultivate the feelings you believe getting what you want will bring you, and feeling like you already have whatever it is you want, you will get it in some form, usually something even better than you originally imagined. If visualizing your desire really gets you in a good place emotionally, and makes you feel great, think about what you want all the live long day.
But, if visualizing makes you feel a bit icky or stressed, which is a common experience for many of us, don’t force yourself to do it. The reason it feels badly is because when we start to think about whatever it is we want, a bunch of crap floats to the surface of our mind.
We feel doubtful we will get it; we start trying to figure out ‘how.’ We look at our current circumstances, and can’t possibly see how we would get our ‘stuff’ the way things are now. If you do feel this way when you think about what you want, tune into what is happening.
You will get some helpful insight into your limiting beliefs around your desire, and use this information to work through your issues. Read blog posts like this to get the good beliefs rooted in. And as you move through your ‘issues’ visualizing may begin to feel good, and can be a great way to cultivate those delicious feelings of already having what you want.
Let Go of Energetic Drags
Remember that aligning is all about how we feel, and we want to do all we can to feel good…when? NOW! This tip is one of the most powerful, and will put your manifesting efforts into hyperdrive, but it is one of the hardest. We get very attached to certain things in our life, and even though they make us feel like crap, we just can’t seem to let go of them.
My fiancé Ryan built a really great blog that he worked on for years; it had over 3,400 posts. But, for awhile, he just wasn’t feeling it anymore. He didn’t like the direction; he felt the content was too scattered over different topics; he felt unclear about what he was trying to accomplish.
Then, there was some sort of issue and the hosting company suspended the site. He took this as a sign to let it go, and when he told me this, I couldn’t believe he would just get rid of the whole blog, a blog he spent years building.
But, he said it just felt right; he wanted to focus more on the blogging and traveling lifestyle, and inspiring others to live life on their own terms . He found an awesome domain name, started his new blog, wrote an amazing e-book (which was just released a couple of days ago) and the feedback and opportunities he has attracted in just a month has been nothing short of amazing.
But, from an LOA perspective, it is not really that amazing, but expected. He let go of something that was weighing him down, something that wasn’t making him feel good, and he moved towards something that did.
What energetic drags do you have in your own life? What are you continuing to do that you no longer want to do, but are too afraid to let go of?
Are you forcing yourself to finish that degree program even though you are now certain you do not want a job in that field because you have already spent so much time and money?
Are you continuing to struggle in an online venture, or with your current blog, but are reluctant to move on because you can’t imagine walking away and starting from scratch again?
Are you forcing yourself to stay in a certain career because it has become such a huge part of your identity, even though you have never really enjoyed it, or used to, but no longer?
Are you a freelance writer who takes on low-paying projects that take up WAY too much time considering the pay, or entail working with pain-in-the-ass clients, because you feel extremely uncomfortable walking away from an opportunity, or because you think you must take any job you can get to ensure you have money?
Really consider this question, and start doing everything you can to remove these anchors.
Don’t Be an Ungrateful A-Hole
For the most part, a lot of us can be really ungrateful bastards; not because we are terrible people, but because we were born into such cushy circumstances, we just take so much for granted.
When given the luxury to focus on what we want in life, rather than just trying to survive day to day, it is easy to always turn our attention to what is missing or what we don’t like. But, if you want to align with whatever it is you are trying to attract, you must learn to be grateful for what you already have. Gratitude creates an awesome energy that….MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD NOW! Bet you didn’t see that one coming.
When we feel grateful for what we already have, those feelings of ‘lack’ diminish. We are not as focused on what is yet to arrive, and this is important because that activity creates an energy that blocks it from coming.
Expressing true gratitude can take a bit of work; unfortunately, focusing on the good does not come as naturally as focusing on the bad, and we need to consciously move our thoughts in this direction. But, the more you begin to do it, the less you have to ‘try.’
I hope this little post helped clarify the sometimes confusing concept of ‘alignment.’ In case you missed the primary point I was trying to make…just remember to FEEL GOOD NOW!

Hi KC,
Brilliant advice….especially the piece about buying that Ryan guy’s eBook. I enjoyed that one a bunch.
What else can I say? You drilled down each point beautifully. I think a general complete and utter lack of gratitude destroys people’s lives. I use that word because I mean it. Many ruin their quick stay here on earth because they miss out one everything.
This morning, I soaked up our ridiculous ocean front view from the deck before I did anything. No matter what happens today is starting from an awesome, grateful space for me. I chose to do this. Gotta make the choice to feel grateful, and to align yourself…..because if you feel like you’re missing anything, you’ll always do stuff to guarantee that you’re missing stuff, no matter how hard or even smart you work.
Thanks KC!

Hey Ryan
Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Yes, that advice was probably the most important point I wanted to make in the post. 🙂 I think you are right about the gratitude thing…we can miss out on so much because our eye is always towards what is not there, and what we don’t like. Very profound observation. You are definitely a master at gratitude and getting in a good mental space at the start of the day
Thank you for this post!
I love your point that alignment isn’t about focusing on what it is you want, like the car or new job, since focusing on what you want (and don’t have) is likely to bring up feelings of lack. Alignment is instead about feeling good…NOW. Its about moving toward a place that feels good right now. That place could be physical or emotional or a combination of both. There are many tools to help you get there, whether it be going for a run, listening to music, or sitting in meditation. And no one else can do it for you. You are the only one that has control over whether you feel good or not. And once you are in this place that feels good, the rest will follow because really what you want when you say you want a new car or new job, is to feel good.
An example from my life is that for months I was feeling down and out. I wanted more money and a job that was intellectually stimulating. I was studying about alignment and yes, the idea of alignment was throwing me off. I was trying my darndest to align with ideas of abundance and all I seemed to get back was more evidence of lack. The harder I tried, the more things seemed to fall apart.
A friend invited me on a long weekend trip with her and I decided to take her up on the offer, figuring that I would enjoy the time with her and could relax a little. I never expected to have as much fun as we actually did. We had an absolute blast and I came back from the weekend so buoyed up and feeling absolutely wonderful. The trip reminded me what it felt like to feel good. I committed to myself that I would take note of this feeling and only move in a direction that felt good. Every thought or action I took was measured on whether it continued to help me feel good. Within days – hours really – I had a new job making over 600% more than I was before. The job is intellectually stimulating, the hours are somewhat flexible, and I am working with good friends.
This was only possible after releasing my hard effort at trying to make myself align with them and just allowing myself to feel good.
Thanks again for the post and keep up the good work on this blog!
Hi Amanda
Thanks so much for your comment. I’m glad this post seems to be helping people get a better idea of what ‘aligning’ means. Thanks for sharing your story, I loved reading it. It is an absolutely perfect example of what I was talking about. You just felt good, detached on the job thing and it came to you without you taking any specific action. I imagine that moment was a major LOA breakthrough–the kind where you realize,
‘wow, I really don’t have to do much do I except feel good?’ It just seems too easy, and not something that makes sense logically.
But, if we can suspend that part of our mind enough, and just focus on the principles, the results are amazing. And the more results we see, the easier it is to get into that good-feeling space. You are so right…producing those good feelings can be accomplished in a number of ways, and we just have to find what works for us, and commit to doing these activities.
Happy Manifesting!
You hit the nail on the head with the whole gratitude thing. People think they can’t control their feelings, but we have more control than we think. Want to feel good? Express gratitude. It’s funny because I sort of learned the whole LOA thing backwards – I felt the truth of it at an emotional level long before I had any intellectual concept that it was even a real thing. I’m still a work in progress, though. 🙂
Hey Mandie
The gratitude can make such a huge difference; like anyone, I get caught up in my problems sometimes, but I have gotten better at going to that space more quickly and frequently. Your experience with LOA is interesting. I am sure on some level I knew there was some truth before I came across it but I was so out of tune with my internal world, I can’t really remember. Something clicked internally when I first started reading about it, but I definitely didn’t really start feeling the truth until a bit into my work with it. I’m sure glad I stuck it out though because it was key in changing my life. I think we are all a work in progress!
