Money is a funny thing. Not having enough can really cause a lot of stress; we think about all the things we want to do but can’t because we don’t have enough money.

So, naturally, we are fully convinced that having more would make us happier, no matter how many times we hear rich people tell us the exact opposite. But, it is probably something we would all just like to find out for ourselves, no?

To some degree, I think this is true, because not worrying about money gives us peace of mind, and feeling this would probably give us a boost, and make us less stressed, but not necessarily happier. There is nothing wrong with wanting money, but don’t look to it as the key ingredient in your happiness; don’t make acquiring it the sole focus of your life.

A few years back, I went through some really rough times financially. I had hooked up with a company (my first writing job) that had boatloads of work for its contributors, and I never bothered picking up any more clients. Then, after two years–essentially overnight– there were huge changes, and all of a sudden my steady income had come to a grinding halt.

Due to a combination of good old laziness, and being somewhere with low cost of living, I didn’t work as much as I could have. At that point in my life, I had managed to save exactly zero dollars. Sometime in the past, I made an attempt at saving money and opened an online account– and a poor attempt it was. I eventually emptied it out what little I had; when I finally started saving money for real, I saw I hadn’t made a deposit since 2004!

I had a couple of things going for me, such as being somewhere cheap, and very little debt, but that was about to change real quick, as you probably already guessed from the title of this post.

I was in major panic mode. Was my dream of traveling and earning income online dead? Would I have to go back to New Jersey and get a regular job? My head was a very unpleasant place to be during this time, my friend.

I was feeling really terrible. At this time, I had definitely dabbled in law of attraction stuff, and beneath the crazy, panic-stricken Kelli, there was the Kelli that knew everything would be okay, and I did my best to keep her at the surface as much as possible.

So, I kept living my life courtesy of Visa and Mastercard, literally. I kept a little bit of the money I had left in my account so I would have money to make my minimum payments, because without those cards I would be screwed. Irresponsible you say? Perhaps, but going after what you really want sometimes requires you to do things that not considered ‘responsible’ or ‘normal’ by most people’s standards.

Then, after several months, things started to turn around; I hooked up with a few online jobs-not writing, but I wasn’t being picky at this point. The pay wasn’t great, but anything seems good when it is compared to zero.

One week, I applied for three different freelance writing jobs, and got hired for all of them—marketing agencies with lots of clients and content that needed to be written. The work was steady and very lucrative—I was making a decent full-time income only working a couple of hours a day, and ever since then, I have always had plenty of work.

I now have a real savings account like a grown-up—I even have more than the typically recommended six months of expenses banked. Imagine that. Oh, and I eventually paid off the debt, so no real harm done.

I am not rich, nor do I particularly aspire to be; while I will always welcome more money, I don’t think I have the type of ambition and drive required of people who become millionaires, but if I ever felt myself moving in that direction, I sure wouldn’t fight it. But, based on my experience, I know I learned a thing or two about LOA and money, and I want to share it here because I know it will help you turn things around financially as well.

Realize Attracting Money Isn’t Any Different than Attracting Anything Else. WE Are the Problem

People, myself included, tend to struggle most with money when it comes to working with LOA. We have this idea that it is harder to attract than other things, like a new job or relationship. But, the thing that makes it harder, is us, and all our f#%#ed up energy around money.

The issues are many. Whether because of our religion, parents or other outside influence, many of us are taught wanting money is bad, that there is something noble about struggling financially.

People say dumb shit like ‘I may not be rich but at least I’m honest.’ Are there bastards out there in the world who do horrible things in the name of greed? Of course there are, but there are also lots of great people who have lots of money and do lots of good with it. You can be one of those people, if you aspire to have lots of money.

We kind of hate people with money—we take great pleasure in seeing celebrities, and other wealthy people, falter in their lives, and triumphantly declare that having a lot of money doesn’t mean a perfect life. And that is true. But, I will tell you something right now—if you harbor hate and jealousy towards people with money, you probably will really struggle to bring more into your experience.

You may have been struggling financially for so long, you can’t imagine any other way, and this creates a huge wall between you and increased financial abundance. You try to logically figure out how you would make more money, and when you come up with limited options, you feel discouraged—but you can’t possibly know all the ways in which it could come to you, so for the love of God, stop trying to!

Don’t look at money as ‘special’ when it comes to the attraction process—the same principles apply as they do to anything else you want. You have to work on uncovering any blocks you may have, and finding ways to work through them. When you think about getting more money, take note of all the yuck that comes up—those are your limiting beliefs.

Realize It Isn’t Money You Want, but What Is Behind It

You don’t really want money—you want what that money can give you. And guess what , you don’t actually want what that either– you want the feelings that having those things would produce, like freedom, peace of mind, less stress and fulfillment to name a few warm, fuzzies.

So, essentially, you are after a feeling. And, no matter how dire your financial situation may be right now, you can absolutely find a way to replicate those feelings right now, no matter what your bank statement says.

While I didn’t always feel great having to get a cash advance to pay my rent, I shifted my perspective on the situation. Instead of panicking about my rising debt, I tuned into the feeling of peace of mind that came with knowing my rent was paid and I had food in the fridge—maybe not the most delectable selection of goodies but I wasn’t going hungry.

In your effort to attract money, what feelings are you after? What could you do right now to feel that way? And don’t worry about feeling that way every second—you just need to work on getting into that space as much as you can. There were plenty of times during this process I was feeling anything but good, and things still worked out in my favor, so don’t beat yourself up.

You have to start feeling good now, no matter how many things are happening around you right now that justify (at least to your ego)your feeling badly. I can’t stress the importance of this enough.

Feel Good about Spending Any Money You Have Now

Like I just mentioned, using credit cards to support myself was not exactly ideal, but I tried to look at the situation in a more positive light; I started to feel grateful that I had the cards to use because if I didn’t, I don’t know what would have happened.

As you are spending money now, even if it is charging something on your credit card because you are short of cash, or just a couple of dollars, feel grateful you have it to spend. If you are someone who is doing okay financially, but just wants to make more, treat yourself to something nice.

You don’t need to spend a ton. If you only have 500 in your savings account, don’t go and spend 300 on dinner in a fancy restaurant, unless of course, you could do that and honestly feel good about it. But, if you are new to LOA and money, you probably won’t so don’t torture yourself.

There is a good chance I may broach this topic again, because I am sure I will think of other things that I wish I would have included here. But, I think what I wrote today will give you a nice, solid foundation for getting your vibe right for your money situation. Remember, attracting money is not any different than attracting anything else–we just need to work on clearing out all the junky beliefs surrounding it.

If I had to take a guess, I would imagine the large majority of people who develop an interest in this LOA thing are looking to make more money.
