I narrowed it down to the core aspects I think were the most important, and tried to make my point in a way that would keep this post to a decent length! But, that spark can quickly be extinguished once our logical minds start analyzing. We think how this could be possible? When I first came across LOA, I didn’t dive right in; I would have periods where I would consciously work with the process, and others where I would get consumed with all the crap in my life and lose my way.

During one of my first ‘serious’ sessions, I really started to give some real thought to the type of life I wanted. I wrote down everything, without censoring myself. That list included my desire to gain a steady stream of work freelance writing, traveling anytime I wanted for as long as I wanted, going to all sorts of personal development retreats, and a bunch of other stuff.

At the time I was making this list, my life was really not that great; there was nothing in my current experience that would suggest I could make any sort of smooth transition to my more desired reality. My father’s death, financial troubles and various other issues were really weighing on me, and I felt depressed and anxious much of the time.

But, I just focused on the ‘what’ and not the ‘how.’ That is what can really trip us up with LOA. We naturally try to figure everything out, and our puny minds are no match for the Universe and its machinations. There is no way we can possibly figure out the zillion ways the things we want can come together for us.

My first freelance job came courtesy of an urge to visit a website I never visited, and I saw a posting for writers—applied and a few days later, I began what would become a steady source of work for over two years. You just never know.

Over time, things just lined up in ways I could not have anticipated, and before I knew it, I was actually living the way I wanted, and not just planning for it.

I just held the idea in my mind—when it felt good, I would visualize myself in this life. When it didn’t feel good, I didn’t. Just so you know, actually thinking about what you want is not necessary to attract it—it is all about how you feel. Don’t worry, the Universe won’t forget.

I Worked on Feeling Good NOW

Everything we attract is based on how we are feeling in that present moment. So, you know what this means? You can’t wait until your ‘stuff’ arrives to feel better. You have to start feeling good right now to change your experience.

This is a tough one for the ego, who will do its best to justify your feeling shitty, and tell you you’re crazy. It will point out all that is wrong with your life, and make you feel like a loon for feeling anything but badly.

One of my biggest breakthroughs with LOA came while I was traveling and I lost my income overnight. Ryan had some fledgling online stuff, but with any new internet-based venture, income can be very sporadic. So the loss of my income was essentially the loss of all sources of money for us.

This was freaking scary; I panicked and thought I would have to give up my dream life and go back to New Jersey and get a job. Everything in that sentence was awful to me.

Living off credit cards literally, being so broke a five dollar massage was out of reach (I love massages more than life itself so this was really a blow), and walking crazy distances because even spending a few bucks on a taxi seemed indulgent, was depressing to say the least.

I remember at the height of our money problems, we were in Laos, the poorest country in SE Asia. One day I was looking at the maids in our hotel, and thinking these people who probably only make a few dollars a day, have more money in their bank account than I do. Again, super-depressing.

But, you know what? Despite the ‘reality’ of my present moment, I worked on feeling good now. During this time, I did some major shifting of perspective.

I was grateful for the credit cards because they kept a roof over our head, and food in our bellies—this is where I would shift my attention when I started thinking about my mounting debt.

I started focusing more on all the things in my life for which to be grateful, such as having someone like Ryan in my life who ‘got’ this attraction thing, being healthy, the fact I was drawn to this type of stuff and open to using a very powerful tool for improving our lives, and being in an area of the world where things were inexpensive to name a few of the good things.

We weren’t eating a lot, and combined with our marathon walking, we dropped a lot of weight. We weren’t like deathly skinny or anything, but I hadn’t been that light since my vegan days. We would jokingly refer to it as the ‘Broke as Fuck Diet’ Southeast Asia version.

Because I had no work, I had plenty of free time on my hands, and almost all of it was spent working on my mindset.

I would write out a list of things for which I was grateful everyday. I would read about LOA to reinforce these truths—this is very important or else you will never be able to override your old programming. I meditated more frequently. I said affirmations in my head constantly to recondition my thought patterns.

We always have the choice on how to view our circumstances. While feeling badly would have certainly been understandable (and of course I felt this way sometimes), I realized it was not serving me at all. Based on the principles of LOA, I knew I had no option but to feel better; it was non-negotiable.

Realized Feeling Good Is The MOST Important Thing

We are so conditioned to think we must always be taking action to get what we want, and that we must always strive no matter how shitty we feel; we always have to power through no matter what. Now, of course, certain actions are necessary. Sure, sometimes we may not feel so great, and have to work through and get stuff done.

But, guess what? You really don’t have to do as much as you think. How you feel is truly the most important thing, more important than any action you can take. Yeah, people succeed all the time by busting their ass, all the while feeling like crap, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

This is one of those things where letting go of the understanding and just going with it comes particularly in handy. The idea of getting lots of awesome stuff without doing much of anything is not something our logical brains can easily accept.

How you feel will determine the success of any actions—if you do things feeling badly or with lack of clarity about the purpose of said actions, you will not get the results for which you are hoping.

Over the last couple of years, I have managed to hook up with lots of lucrative, long-term freelancing jobs. Three of those jobs were snagged all within the same week, during that intense period of work after my income went away. Since then, I have acquired several others.

Now, most people in this line of work will tell you how competitive it is, how hard it is to find work, how hard it is to find good-paying jobs, and how you usually have to apply to so many postings before landing something.

This hasn’t been my experience at all, and you know why? Because I work on just feeling good and knowing I will get work. For the most part, I only check one job board. This is where all my clients have come from.

Could I get more work if I looked on more and applied for more postings? Sure, probably, but that doesn’t make me feel good, so I don’t do it. My main goal is not to have as many clients as possible and make as much money as possible.

By only taking action that feels good to me, I get what I am looking for with much less effort. I take what is referred to as ‘inspired action.’ Inspired action feels really good. I don’t force things because I know how important it is I feel good, and when I make myself do things and I feel like crap, I know I am moving further away from what I want.

Honestly and truly, the core of mastering LOA is just trying to feel good, and cultivating the energies you believe would come with getting whatever it is you want. It took me a long time to really get this, and once I did, getting good things to come to me has been so much easier.

When I feel crappy, I don’t force things–I do things that make me feel better, like watching a funny movie or show, or simply going to sleep.

Feeling good is what has landed me lots of work without spending much time looking for it; feeling good is what has helped me attract awesome experiences like getting a housesitting job in Fiji. I know feeling good will help create awesome things for my blogging efforts. So long as I keep feeling good, I know I will continue to attract lots of other great stuff.

For the first time in my life, excitement about the future, and never knowing what awaits in a good way, is predominant over the worry, and it’s a good place to be. My work with LOA changed my life, and it can change yours too.
